Hello,

I just got these results late last night. I'm so confused trying to look up every single word. If someone could help me understand in plain old English what this means. I had my PET/CT today and am waiting for those results and I have an ultrasound guided biopsy Monday.

I don't meet with my Oncologist until the 18th.

Thank you so very much!!

    Joseanna,

You have 2 suspicious lumps in your right breast. One is right up near the chest wall, but radiologist cannot see any chest wall involvement. (a good thing) You also have some abnormalities in your right armpit.  Enlarged lymph nodes and a spiculated mass, which is a lump of tissue with spikes or points on the surface. You also seem to have some possible lesions on your liver. He recommends follow-up and further testing which you are in the process of doing.

I'm not sure if I answered your questions. A lot of what he wrote has to do with the size and placement of the masses, so that a surgeon can find them more easily when they do a biopsy.  If there is a specific part that you are wondering about, please let me know. I'll try to help. I have medical background, but not in radiology.  But I've read a lot of my own reports.

    All the best,, glennie

From what I can gather, you are possibly looking at a breast cancer diagnosis. They don't believe there is chest wall involvement (good) but you possibly have some nodal involvement that the report does not suggest metastasis of the nodes to other areas as of yet. They want to biopsy the mass. They also saw a lesion on your liver that you should have checked for spread. That is what I got out of this. Prayers for a good outcome! Hugs!

The part headed "IMPRESSION" is like a summary, and the BI-RADS category tells how suspicious it all looks.

    Thank You!!

I guess my biggest question is... Is it in my lymph nodes up along my collarbone and along my neck? That's where I have soo much pain radiating. It makes it hard to sleep.

I guess it's pointless in calling my surgeon until the PET scan report posts, right?!

It doesn't sound that way. It sounds as thought it is in your arm pit. I will be wishing you well, that it is only a local advancement, like mine. I am still here! please let us know?

    Hi Joseanna!

I hope you "enjoyed" your PET scan. Mine was OK; it's hard to stay still for 20 minutes! I saw your MRI results; the biggest worry is probably the liver lesions. Thankfully, you've already had a PET scan, and that will give your cancer team a better idea about what they might be. Scans pick up all kinds of things that aren't cancer, like benign lung nodules. But, cancer in the major organs can be scary to contemplate! I've been busy looking at my electronic medical records, trying to find out what my PET scans revealed. No luck yet!

Hi pretty. When they say metastatic disease was found locally, that is still not stage 4, just like mine is not.. I do have lung nodules, calcifications on my bladder, all kinds of other things that are not cancer. Or so they say. Heh heh, sometimes i don't believe my team. But, only if they do find cancer outside of the breast area, like in an organ like your bladder or liver, lung, etc, would you be stage 4. So there is still hope! Or your bones. I am hoping for you, that your pet is one that doesn't bite. So, even if it was in your clavicle nodes, that's alright, as radiation would fix that. But I don't see any indication that it was there. Hopefully, your nodes in your arm pit did their job, and kept it from going further.

    Hi Elaine!!!

Oh man! I actually did ok in that thing! My arms were aching pretty bad afterwards but for being claustrophobic, I was quit calm. I just kept my eyes closed the whole time and took big deep breaths😁😎👍💪

Yesterday was TORCHER I tell ya! I was checking my online file ALL day and finally around 8 it popped up! I jumped off the couch n read it out loud to DH. Most of it I just don't get. Why can't they tell what it is after ALL these scans?!

My heart dropped when I read about the liver lesions. I'm not really a heavy or regular drinker for that matter or smoker or any kind of drug user. Soo now I'm obsessed with trying to find anyone with a similar reading/ diagnosis.

I'm happy to hear you made it through yours too 😊 fingers crossed for good results for you.

I feel it's going to be a long weekend for us.

    Hugs n positive healing thoughts.

    Tomboy,

Ok that makes me feel soo much better! There are so many different factors in play! It's crazy how everyone's can be so different. I have so much to learn.

Wow! Having all those nodules would be concerning. How often do you get rechecked?

Thank you all for your insight and patience with my naïveté!!

    Hi prettyblueyes,

I just wanted to say that I was also diagnosed as a mom with 2 young children, and I absolutely hate this disease for both of us, and for all other men and women who have to endure it. I hope that your treatment will knock all the cancer cells out.

You have a 4.7 cm mass at the 11 o'clock position. Remember, that mass can also contain dcis, the actual invasive part may be smaller. The spiculated mass is very lightly cancer and has extra nodal extension, meaning it is outside and around the node. You have lesions on your liver (so did I and they were cysts, 19+ of them) and could be a cyst or hemangioma or any number of benign things so don't panic yet. (yeah right!). There's a saying among doctors that these CT scans etc. will find at least 5 non=cancerous thingies. I was staged because of the liver lesion and should not have even gone that far according to one oncologist. However, your cancer is a bit more advanced but wait until you get all the prognostic information together. My cousin's friend had 6/12 nodes +, was pregnant and that was 25 years ago and she and her son are doing very well. Keep up the hope! Try not to make those pretty blue eyes red!!!! ((((HUGS))))

    YoungTurkNYC,

Hi there! I think I'm most frustrated that I found the lumps in my breast back in February while pregnant and my OB did an exam and told me it wasn't cancer and that breast cancer isn't painful! Grrrr.

    How old are your children?

    I have DS 14, he'll be 15 on the 25th

    DD 13, DS 7 & DS 10 weeks.

Hugs to you and your family.

How did you tell your kids? I'm not sure if I should bring them to my Oncologist appointment when he tells me my actual diagnosis. Thoughts?

Hello Blupearl, what a pretty screen name.

I think I remember hearing mine seemed more aggressive because of the pregnancy hormones. Because back in February when I had my 1st mammagram and ultrasound they only saw dense breast mass. So in 6 months I'm here now.

Thank you for sharing about the liver lesions. I'll try to remain calm and not eat everything in site until I get confirmation haha!!! 😁😝

    Hi Prettyblueyes,

I was 40 when I was diagnosed and my twin children (a boy and a girl) were 7 at the time. Now, they are 10. I had a consultation with a social worker and was told that honesty was the best policy with the kids (without giving too much detail but giving them the facts that they had the ability to understand). You have four kids, and some of them may be able to handle more facts than your other kids. I did not take my kids to any of the appointments or chemo sessions but I told them that I had cancer and that I was being treated for it. I would NOT recommend that you take your kids to the appointments as this may hinder your ability to speak freely with your doctors. You may want to present your kids with the facts after you have all the facts yourself and have time to digest. I also told my kids that due to the cancer my breasts would also be removed. I also explained that my hair would fall out during chemo but I was the same mom, and that they should not fear any of the physical changes. I also reassured them that the cancer was not contagious, and that they would not get it from me by touching me or kissing me. My kids got used to my being hairless fairly quickly. I rarely used wigs (found them itchy and uncomfortable). I only used them when I had to return to work while still undergoing the chemo. This was much more for my colleagues' benefit than my own. I give you and your family my best. Hugs.

I 2nd that.  Don't take the kids to the appt.  Give yourself time to digest the diagnosis and treatment plan, and then think how to tell them. Many people on here have been in the same boat and they will be able to give you good advice.  Take your hubby or a good friend or sister,,, but not the kids.

I was reading through your posts and saw your post about your OB telling you that breast cancer doesn't hurt. When I found my tumor (at the time lump). It was because while running down some stairs I felt a soreness in my breat. I examined it and found a lump. I read on numerous websites that if it's sore, it's not cancer. Armed with my information from cancer websites, decided to wait until my next scheduled appointment with my primary care doctor (which luckily for me was in and out a month) at which point I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. I hate that people are being told this absolutely incorrect information and potentially delaying diagnosis.

I know the waiting and testing can be so nerve racking! I hope you get all of your answers soon.

    Trish,

My tumor also hurt, and it gave me a completely false sense of security for a couple of months. This misinformation does delay diagnosis, and sometimes even the best doctors think that BC does not hurt.

I have pasted a link below that contains 19 pdf pages of how to read "BREAST MRI." If you copy and paste this link in your browser, it will open up as a pdf and will enable you to save or print it, and read at your leisure. It's a terrific 1st step to educating ourselves on this subject, especially since it is filled with medical jargons.

    nld.by/omr/breast/BI-RADS/BIRADS-MRI-5th-Edition.PDF

    Good luck to you

P.S. In addition to the MRI negatives that was given to me, I was also given a DVD of ALL the MRI images taken, along with a summary of their determination. Considering that MRI is very expensive, if you are not given a DVD of your images, may wish to ask for one?
