Hello, ladies, Iam new here.I am 53 and still perimenopausal, which is not good, because , as they said, it feeds my cancer with hormones. I was diagnozed July 12 and already had a lumpectomy on July 26.They inserted me port for future chemo, because I am triple positi, and my cancer is very agressive. But tnen they found, that margins had 2 DCIS, so I had to have re-incision. Today, after re-incision surgeon called me and told me they found more DCIS and also cancer cells..So I have to do Mastectomy...I am devastated and very scared, previuos operatin lumpectomy was not easy and I had a very difficult recovery. I don't know the date of operation yet....I even don't know should I get reconstruction or not? I would like to join the group and talk to you, ladies, because I am very scared.Thank you, Olga

Olgah34 I am sorry you have to go thru this but you came to the right site for support. Everyone on this thread had their mastectomy a year ago this month. As you can read we are all doing much better now. I found the bmx not to be near as painful or horrific as I expected it to be. I did not have reconstruction until after my chemo that is just the way my hospital does it. We have to do everything we can to kill the beast, so surgery and chemo are necessary. For me there was no question if i would have reconstruction but you have to decide what you want to do, it is a very personal decision.

Olgah this thread is from last year. There is a great thread for triple positives here linky
There is an August surgery thread here: linky
But I will tell you it's been almost a year since my BMX. I did implants and have had those for 7+ weeks now. The surgery is scary but not as bad as I thought. I actually didn't even need pain medication. My tumor had both IDC and DCIS. Total size was 6.5cm but the invasive only was 5.5cm. I too had no nodes. I have my last herceptin in 3 weeks. How do I feel. Well my onc's NP sent me an email today and at the end she said "By the way, I thought you looked fabulous today." I feel great too.
You will get though this. I was 49 premenopausal when I started too (50 now). They will have treatment for you. You'll get more info about that on the triple positive thread.

Well August 2010 Sisters...We have reached our 5 year milestone. The journey was bitter and difficult, but I am still here! Five years ago on August 17, I underwent left breast mastectomy. I thought I was issued a death sentence and cried uncontrollably in the weeks and months that followed. I am here today to tell the newbies that life will be sweet again, and that you will get through the surgery and subsequent chemo, rads and/or reconstruction. No sage advice, just live, love, and keep on living!

Hi Paula. I'm still here too. August 31st for me. Congratulations to us!

Hello August 2010 Sisters,
Seven years have come and gone, and I am still here. God willing that all of us during that horrible year of 2010 are kicking it and still aspire to love, and keep on keeping on. Bless us all.

August 2020 and I am still here and doing well. I had my surgery in August 2010 and was scared shitless. Today, it seems like an old bad dream. I still worry, but I concentrate on the wonderful life after cancer. For those beginning this journey, you will get through this. It will be one hell of a year, but you will get through it. Be loving and patient with yourself and rude others. God bless and keep you.
