One of my close friends is scheduled to have preventative surgeries starting next year to reduce her risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer after undergoing genetic testing. What can I do to help her pre and post surgery? She has a home and 2 young children. What do women who have undergone these surgeries find is most helpful or needed?

Child care, food, house cleaning, and driving her to appt's are possibles.   Perhaps you could be the organizer and coordinate all your friends with helping out. There are websites, like takethemameal.com where people can go to sign up for a slot to bring a meal.  Who will take care of the kids?  Can they have sleepovers at someone's house the first night or two after surgery?  House cleaning, dog walking, cat litter box cleaning,,, think about all the things she does in her day, and how she might need assistance with those things.  You are a good friend to think about it so early on.  **Girl Scout Preparedness award**

Amy, glennie is right -- you are a great friend to have the foresight to want to help your friend out -- she is very lucky to have you!

Keep us posted with how your friend does with her surgery, and you should let her know that she can also come here to talk with others who have undergone breast surgery for lots of great tips to get through.
