What is the significance of IDC *with* DCIS?

My pathology report from the biopsy (I was diagnosed 2 weeks ago and see a surgeon Monday) indicated that I have both IDC and DCIS. I note that because in "Surviving Triple Negative Breast Cancer", she made a comment in her pathology report about "...because the concern had been that I had DCIS along with the IDC".

What does this mean in terms of prognosis, recurrence, etc.?

I'm sure someone will come along soon who is triple negative. I am not, but I think it's pretty common to have mixed IDC and DCIS. I had a big fat mess of both. It's the IDC that is the main concern - so far as I am concerned. Best wishes and hope someone with triple neg chimes in.

IDC with DCIS is common. DCIS is thought to be the precursor to IDC so it makes perfect sense they would occur together. DCIS is lower concern since it is contained in the milk ducts. You will be treated for the IDC mainly. They may wish to remove the IDC, which can sometimes be quite wide spread. But DCIS would not change your prognosis. It is noninvasive and any treatment you are receiving for IDC would treat DCIS (like lumpectomy and rads).

    Hope that helps.
