Hello,

I am new here so if this is the wrong area to post this please let me know.

Yesterday i underwent a Central Duct excision for bloody nipple discharge. Prior to the surgery my bs explained that she would be cutting around the ariola and removing all of the milk ducts.

Everything seemingly went fine with the surgery. When it was done the dr came and talked to me. Honestly i was still kind of out of it so i didnt really absorb all she said. She did give me a small jar of silver sulfa cream and said to put it on the "thin spot".

Today i took the bandage off and saw the steri strips along the ariola as expected. What i didnt expect what for three blood soaked steri strips to fall off of the actual nipple itself. Because the steri strips fell off i could clearly see the wound. It appears that a chunk of the actual nipple was removed ( not ariola, but the actual nipple) i can clearly see where the skin is thinned on the nipple itself. I called the bs office as i was nervous about the steri strips coming off and was also confused as to why a chunk of my nipple was missing. The nurse explained that the dr was out for the rest of the week however as long as the wound was not actively bleeding or open it would be fine. I asked her why a chunk was taken from the nipple and she said the dr had not submitted her notes yet and she (the dr) would review this with me at the follow up appointment in 3 weeks. I was just looking to see if anyone had a similar experience or any insite as to why the dr may have done this?

Thank you!
