Can we have a forum for "older" people with bc?

Anne, I feel the same way about my mother--want her to go on living and enjoying life. And she is 92! My middle sister just spent a couple of days with my mother and they had a wonderful time. Linda took her to get her handicap placard for the car renewed. She also hemmed and altered some new dresses I had ordered before I left home. My mother hadn't worn them because they were too long and also too large.

What my mother most enjoyed was going out for lunch a couple of times.

I still use Windows 7 and will stick with it until forced to change. Why change something that works?

It's overcast today with a chance of showers all day. We've already had a couple of showers. The weather suits my "job" for today, updating the checkbook register to reflect all the automatic transactions.

Good morning to all! It is raining a bit this morning! Almost unheard of in August even in a normal year in the Great Central Valley, and in the drought...suffice to say that we sat out in the pre-dawn rain with our coffee for a bit.

I am off to Reno and Lake Tahoe for a few days for a family wedding that has turned into a family reunion. The best part is that both of my kids and my two grandkids will be there, which makes it a very worthy celebration! After the festivities end Sunday we are going to just spend a few days relaxing and enjoying being together.

Hi Ritajean, your summer sounds busy - that is how mine started. Now that it is wonderfully quiet, I sit here still a little congested. Yesterday's "first" outing was great but I paid for it at night. No sleep until 5 am, then I slept until noon.
DH found kitty lying with me in bed and I never knew it. Neither of them woke me.

It's a beautiful day and I hope to get out to the beach. I won't ask a friend along as I am still very congested.

Rita, it's true that when a volunteer project becomes all work for a few people that it may be time to give it a rest. Perhaps you can find another way to raise money with a Facebook page or a simple donation request.

I also enjoy that warm sultry summer air. I turned "up" the temp on the AC so I could open the doors for awhile. It looks like our new AC may have cost about $50 extra the first month as we figured it all out. That's a lot...but when I go to work, I can program it to come on just before we get home.

Octo, what a wonderful wedding and reunion you have coming up! And such a beautiful setting. Have a very safe trip.

Carole, I am sure your mother misses you but it sounds like she has had a good visit with your sister. What a blessing to have your mom doing so well at 92.

Rita, we have not caught any fish that are keepers. But one of our neighbors who is a good fisherman gave us some beautiful crappie filets today.

DH's sister and her dh are on their way here to visit until Wed. They're driving their van/camper so will be sleeping in their own rv. We'll be cooking dinner tonight. Then we'll probably be eating out as we do some sightseeing in the area.

Puffin, I know you will continue to provide love and support to your grandchild, no matter what. So many young people have no one in similar situations and many caught in gender dismorphia take their own lives.

I upgraded to Windows 10 last week after a recommendation from my computer guy. He loves it and prefers all his customers to switch so I did with no problems. Getting used to something new is always a little annoying, but it's like switching from Windows Explorer to Google Chrome to Foxfire...you get used to it.

Things are ok here. Mike did not do so well with chemo this past week but it was his own fault. Stubborn man! He should know better than decide to start a walking plan every morning. Sure enough, he did too much and then was to darn stubborn to cut back even half a block to allow his body to catch up with the new demand for oxygen and energy...both in short supply, especially during chemo week. On top of that, he scheduled a dentist appointment but never told his dentist about his medical condition. He had a tooth pulled. Because of the low platelets, he bled way too much. Had it all down the front of his shirt and went through wads of tissue and cotton for nearly 10 hours! He left the dentists office to go to the chemo appointment so he was a pathetic sight, I'm sure. By Friday he was better - no more bleeding, but still had one more day of chemo. He promised me he won't do anything stupid like that again. We are getting along fine and he seems to have made an effort to curb his criticism and mask his depression a bit. Of course as soon as things settle down for a couple of days, something always happens that deepens his depression. Our son totaled a car yesterday. Fortunately he wasn't hurt thanks to the airbag, but since he is bi-polar, he had a major manic episode the rest of the day, culminating in a panic attack.

As Roseann Roseannadanna used to say on Saturday Night Live - it's always something.

Happy Birthday Blondie!

Puffin, I don't post often but I have to say that I wholeheartedly agree with every word Jackie has said. I can tell from your post that you will accept your grandchild without reservation no matter the gender. How sad that the way the world is now, there are children and grandchildren out there who think about suicide because they fear that they cannot be accepted or loved for who they really are - most especially by their families. You and your family are in my thoughts. You are a good person and I'm sure, a wonderful grandmother.

Sandra, good to hear from you that you and Mike are doing so well together. I agree with Jackie that the way you have handled Mike's illness is inspirational. May he continue to do well (in spite of himself-:).

Sad my trip to Ft. Collins CO had to be cancelled but thrilled the friend I was going to visit sold her house in a day (not the year the realtor told them) and got the asking price and she will be here the 19th. It will be wonderful to be able to have lunch and visit often.

Thanks for the B-day wishes ladies but it's not until 8/25. I guess I can just celebrate every day until then? Or at least I can celebrate twice. I;ll save your good wishes.

Puffin - So glad that you appear to take the grandchild's upcoming change with equanimity. It will be difficult but glad to know you're sending love. I agree w/Jackie - I don't think there is a choice. My favorite brother was gay and he was never a different person & still my favorite brother. Because I didn't reject him as my other brother did (this was in the late 80's early 90's), I was privileged that he still included me in his life.

Sandra - MEN!! Not much else to say is there. But glad DH is finally at least trying to work on the depression. Hope the stubborn gene can be modified next. (LOL) Glad to know that you're both doing OK. Are you still planning a trip to FL? I want to be under that table w/the teacups, but I'd prefer something a little stronger in the cup. I keep telling myself I need to get over & take you to lunch (3-1/2 hours for those of you not used to Texas distances) but I'm having lots of company this summer. Then in October I'm going on up to Boston with my BFF and we're taking a "leaf cruise" up the East coast. It will be a year since her DH died and she really doesn't need to be sitting home alone.

Saw a great stage production of Driving Miss Daisy on Sunday afternoon with my domino ladies. Then all 6 of us went to eat sushi & tempura & lo mein & yaktori & fried rice, etc. Nice to be inside with our 101 degree weather. Hi to everyone I missed.
