First bone scan after diagnosis
hi!
I have a bonescan booked and am super nervous they are going to find something. I dont know if i am overreacting. I have one node positive, umx scheduled for aug 31. My surgeon has requested this but so scared. Anyone else have these feelings? Please? Anyone assure me it's just standard procedure and that it's rare to find it this advanced so early? Thank you!

Hi Kimmer!
I had a PET scan shortly after diagnosis to see whether or not my cancer had spread beyond the "breast area." It's not standard procedure for everyone, but my MO is a scanner. (In fact, I have another PET scan scheduled for next week.) I was scared of what my first PET scan would show, primarily because my news kept getting worse and worse. (For example, my lump was originally supposed to be 3 cm, but the MRI showed 5 cm+.) But, it was actually reassuring because the PET scan found nothing interesting. I hope you have the same result!

Hi Kimmer! It's pretty normal in most hospitals when you are diagnosed with IDC to get initial staging scans. I had an ultrasound, chest xray, and bone scan but I was most scared for the latter. I had two positive nodes, 2 cm ER+/PR+ tumor and was diagnosed in 2011.
Don't worry, your onc in all likelihood ordered this out of normal procedure and not because he expects to find anything. I hope that your results are clear!

When I was DXd, the first scan I had was a bone scan. In a few days, I also had full body MRI and CT with contrast. A few days later I had PET scan. Nothing showed on any of them except on the PET scan an area along my lower right jaw 'lit up' and was quickly biopsied - nothing there. That was 6 years ago and still NED.Scans are done for information so that the best TX plan can be done. Doing them does not mean necessarily mean that 'anything' is expected but the best information is wanted for the 'right' TX.
Different Drs are different with different ideas. I had done neoadjuvant A/C, UMX, adjuvant Taxol but my Rads Dr insisted on a new CT with Contrast before starting Rads. It was as fine.
