Exercise and well being during chemo and radiation

Yes Whitney, it counts! Good for you for making some changes and getting out there.
Octo, great work today. No pun intended. But you're getting stronger every day!
My margarita turned into a comedy of errors. Knew I needed tequila so stopped at my new "local" for a meet and greet. Nice lady. Gave me some picnic wine glasses when I told her all my stuff was packed. I knew I had lime and triple sec at home.
Because it is such a special day though, I wasn't content with the plastic. I wanted glass. And I wanted a martini glass. Found a beautiful one, and I only needed one, for 50 cents at the hospice thrift store. And for a good cause! With polka dots! A good omen I do believe.
Got home. No lemon squeezer. Triple sec is packed away too. Oh well, for me in recent years, it's as much about aesthetics as the booze. So I composed a still life and I've been enjoying just looking at it for now. Maybe I'll have one, or maybe I'll go for a light walk. In the meantime, I did about the same activity today:
30 minutes active
1mile
One port-a-cath removal with no twilight sleep.
Edited for additional movement.
3,000 steps
1 3/4 miles
50 minutes

That's probably the sleekest, lowest calorie margarita you'll ever encounter, Katy, and it's a beauty. I LOVE the glass! Enjoy.
I've been jogging in place during conference calls all day but haven't checked the distance yet.
Did the sim and first boost, quizzed my techs and RO (they're going to charge me for med school tuition if I don't quit asking questions) and wowed the nurse and my RO with my gorgeous (hah) skin. Honestly, I know I've done well compared to many women but I just want it all to fade and look like the other one again. She says it will...
I've got an event to attend shortly so no walk, no bike. Pushups later.
-
25.1 mile road bike ride today, 1,061 feet of climbing. And beautiful along the coast! I love the ocean
-
I got my juicer & fitbit today. Been playing with both. No official workout bu I did move 1/4 cord of wood and some heavy furniture out of my yard. Stuck my iPhone in my pocket - logged 1.5 mi today just doing things (didn't have it pocketed all day, just during my yard/garage adventure). Had 6 servings of fr/veg and hydrated like crazy.
-
Nice T- you are kickin' it!
-
we need a like button on here. Sometimes I don't have anything to say, but I want to like people's posts.
-
Oh Katy...sorry no celebratory margarita today, and it looks like you put such effort to getting it started! Do love the glass though and photo. Perhaps do it when you get to the new house, and celebrate deportation and the new house! 🍸
I walked 2 mi this morning, debating about walking this evening, but it's hot today!

Katy, that is the most evocative portrait of a non-drink I have ever seen. Congratulations on being portless!
I don't know how far today, but tons more energy than yesterday, and about an hour and 20 minutes, though some of that time spent on line at the grocery. Call it an hour of real walking.
And proseco with dinner!
-
Katy, beautiful low calorie still life!
4 mile jog with 1500 feet of elevation gain, 100 crunches, 20 wall pushups, 1.5 mile walk at lunch.
First blood test post chemo tomorrow..key ominous music...
-
Look at you all go! Katy, count me in for one of those very dry margaritas!
8/5:
- .5 hr T (2.6 MPH avg) + stretches
- (radiation #19)
- 1.55 miles rowing + stretches
- 1.0 hr T (2.5 MPH avg) + steps
= 6 miles

Katy, congrats on the deportation. I still get a funny feeling up my neck now and then but figure it will fade in time. I think of my deportation as no longer needing a port in a storm. The storm is starting to let up, however slowly.
Took a restorative walk last evening in the intermittent big fat raindrops. It was a de-stress walk that I sorely needed after my DDs surgery yesterday. She did great and was released this morning back to my parents' house. They'll start back here on Friday and hopefully arrive on Sunday. Long drive for a kid whose arm is still too swollen to cast.
Tonight I went just over 2 miles. Wasn't going to go but now the dogs are conditioned and started pestering me relentlessly. Love them for getting me out there.
-
walked 3.4 miles today. Congrats Katy on the occasion of your successful deportation!!
-
So-she-did, nice imagery!

Well done, ladies! I used my fitbit for sleep tracking last night & it confirmed what I've always known. I sleep like crap. I'll be exploring its other features today. I'm picking fruit for a food rescue group, doing yard work & probably going to the gym for elliptical.
Katy, what day do you get the keys?
-
Enjoy, and take a break every 20-30 minutes to let your lymph do its thing!
My Fitbit has a pretty cumbersome method of managing non-walk/run activities, so I think it's easiest for me to just take the device off and add treadmilling minutes afterward (rather than leave it on and try to recalibrate the steps by changing the activity and entering its exact times later). Or leave it on and know that treadmilling at an incline burns more calories than walking on a flat plain, but that the calorie count is inaccurate anyway and what really matters for me right now is my active minutes.
I'm down another pound but don't want to push hard on this while I'm in radiation. I had a nice talk with my PT yesterday and we agree that it's walking, rowing, and stretches for now, with lifting and other activities to be added after radiation when my skin and tissue aren't as fragile.
-
Eileen- I believe I'm getting the keys today! I visited the seller yesterday and wished them well. Also mentioned that somuch dust was going to accumulate from the roof job and the tile cutting in the house that they need not be overboard with their cleaning. (That was part of the holdup). They said then that they plan to drop off the keys tomorrow, which is now today!
-
Eileen: How many times did you wake up and how many times restless? I had 31x restless the first night. Last night was like 14 and that was a good night.
Did an hour on the elliptical today.
-
5 mile walk
-
Allison: I woke up once (to pee) and was restless 24xs. Seems about right.....
-
I usually get up about 3 x to pee and sometimes 4. I can't believe I consider 11 x restless a good night.
-
4.6 mile hike this morning.
-
Busy day with lots of walking, some of which included weightlifting (laptop early in the day, CSA shares later). And no time to stop and smell the flowers, but it felt great to walk fast.
3.5 miles (calculated not with fitbit but with google maps! Because I was curious.)
Back to the chemo chair tomorrow, but just for Taxol.
A CSA member who is a cheese maker was giving away samples of his sheep's milk camembert, made with beer. So strong it could have walked a few miles on its own!
-
Good luck tomorrow, Rainy. And thanks for the photos, WPmoon.
-
beautiful pics Whitney! I average 15 to 20 times restless per night with one pee trip.
I didn't walk this morning, just wasn't feeling it. I might still venture out this evening for a trip or two around the hood.
-
25.1 miles on road bike, 1100 feet of climbing. 2800 calories burned this week cycling, but it feels like more than that. 75 miles so far this week.
Scary statistic is I have climbed 70,000 feet this year. And still I'm fat! I mean, what does it take?
-
italychick- does that mean you have reached cruising altitude?:)
Not a great excercise day. Had a blood draw, so walked a half mile around the hospital. (All systems normal, but low on vit d) tonight everybody and their dog wanted to call me, so only jogged 4 miles and 50 crunches. Grrrf. Oh yeah, and arm stretchies. Must remember my new jam- I will not blow off friends and family to excercise, I will not blow off friends and family to excercise.....although my MO totally feeds my insanity on that.
-
2 mile evening walk. Fatigue day.
-
8/6:
- .5 hr T (2.5 MPH avg) + stretches
- (radiation #20)
- 1.55 miles rowing + stretches
- 2.0 hr T (2.0 MPH avg)
- Fitbit steps
= 6.82 miles
-
littleblue, I think that almost puts me in outer space!

Jack wants to know if he can join the group. He says he has well-being and motivation issues as well.
He has submitted a short video clip to accompany his application.
