    Okay you guys - did we or did we not have a discussion about planning an off day into our expectations?

    Katy, you're still going forward even if you'd like to pretend you're not.

    Octo, that incision seems so harmless doesn't it, until you realize it's at least as bad as the lx incision. First days back at work are TOUGH.

    Rainy, simply making the decision to step outside in NYC in August is a huge exercise in willpower.

    Cut yourselves some slack - I'll bet you all did something healthy and restorative today. Quit focusing in what you didn't do. Tomorrow is another day.

    Hopeful is right, and as ksusan said in her original post "everything counts"

    I too have to remember that not every day will I go faster, go longer, or be stronger than the day or days before. There are going to be those days we're not doing as much as we'd like. But yes, tomorrow is another day, and another opportunity to get moving...

    Today I walked 1.8 mi in the morning, and 1.7 mi in the evening. Using my phone to keep track, but now interested in the Fitbit too!

    Good luck tomorrow Katy on your deportation, it will be over before you know it. Another thing "done" you can check off your list! Excited for you, moving day this weekend right? 😊

    [Frau Doktor hat] One day without much exercise is a datum, not the whole picture. Same as the one day with too much ice cream. Notice it, and notice that in the trend of your data, it's an outlier. Outliers aren't statistically significant in your sample. [/Frau Doktor]

    Excellent point, Susan. (The trouble with the ice cream, of course, arises, when one pretends it's an outlier and it's not. Not that any of us would engage in such self-delusion.)

    • 1.0 hr T (2.5 MPH avg) + stretches
    • (radiation #18)
    • .5 hr T (2.7 MPH avg) + stretches
    • + steps

    = 5.08 miles

    3.42 miles today plus my MLD appointment which always makes me happy. Portland finally decided to set it's temp gauge back to normal. Celebrating with a hot cup of bedtime tea!

    30 minutes garden (see SAT's comments about weather, above, which facilitated time outdoors)

    30 minutes on the bike

    upper body ST

    Heading off to fix my mint tea and do some bedtime (recreational) reading. Tomorrow's another simulation and the first of my boosts.

    Thanks, Hopeful. You're right, and doing something restorative is what counts. Today is supposed to be another hot one, then the temps should drop into the low-mid 80s, which is more bearable. Winter, where art thou?

    Good luck to everyone today, whatever the weather.

    Restorative part: made three salads for supper: cubes of roast potato and beet on farro with lime dressing, rosemary, and dill; white and green beans with pesto dressing; and potato and feta with balsamic vinegar and lemon basil.

    Time to get going!

    Fatigue is really starting to set in with me so getting to the gym at night after working all day is a tough road..... but ive made it 2 days this week. Last night before I went I took some B-12. That seemed to help a little. I had a little more pep in my step. LOL!! Will do that every night going forward.

    Look at all of you! Yay!

    I was suddenly up 12# from my lowest chemo weight, so I'm working on that. I'm down 2# after a day with low simple carbs. My goal is 12# down from where I am now, which would hit the goal of a BMI of 30.

    I did a strength training/cardio class at the gym yesterday. Every part I have hurts. In a good way (i guess). Planning a walk or elliptical session today. Been upping my water & fruit/veggie intake. 9 servings daily is way too many. I can't get beyond 5-6. There are only 24 hours in a day - that's sooo much chewing.....

    Jackbirdie, are you getting deported today?? You are going to be fine!

    I'm tired today- yesterday hiked for 5 hours for work, then came home and ran 4 miles, 100 crunches, back side etc. and 10 wall pushups. Actually, I've been tired since camping last weekend. I think the last 5 months are catching up to me..

    I'm pretty tired, too. I hauled myself up to exercise this morning--having mid-morning radiation is a great incentive to exercise early since I need time to shower and moisturize more than 2 hours before the appointment.

    I see my PT/LE today as well. If it stays under 90F, I may take real walk outside.

    I ordered a fitbit. Maybe it will help me push myself more. Although I'll be in a good exercise groove and then back to surgery in 3 weeks : /

    It's exercisus interruptus for sure, but on the other hand, you'll be in the best shape possible before surgery. I'm enjoying the Fitbit but I want to see if online (vs phone) gives me any additional options for data entry or display.

    5 mile walk for me today. I did it at a 15 minute pace though which is good considering the darn toe! 6 days until last chemo!

    The deed is done. Having been deported, I'm now sipping matè in an outdoor cafe in Montevideo, Uruguay.


    naturally, just as everyone said, it was only slightly painful, and the smoke from the burning flesh when they cauterized was a bit off-putting.


    I was shaking like a leaf from the moment I woke up. I am still trembling now. I totally underestimated the emotional component and significance of this last step, signaling the end, the real end, of tx.


    That I had to believe I won't be needing it again. Ever, hopefully. I cried all throughout the procedure. Before, during, and after. Nerves, slight pain, wonder, relief, and many other emotions all jumbled up so I can't even separate them now. No need to.

    I'm going to rest a bit, and as it is a nice day, I plan to get out and do something. Maybe some surveillance on the new house as the sellers STILL HAVEN'T LEFT! WTF?

    Leigh: You do crossfit, right? I can't believe you can even do it at all let alone 2 days.

    Whitney: You are doing great!

    Eileen, you will love the Fitbit. I can't believe how motivating it is. I get up and try to get to my goal. If it is time for bed and I have 300 steps to go, I do it.

    Jazzercise today. Love steroid day. So productive.

    Allison, it was written in the contract that they had 7days post close to get out. It is a "tradition of sorts" in these here parts.... (Can anybody hear the dueling banjos or Deliverance theme song in the background?)

    It's just that my agent thought they would leave sooner. So I didn't manage my expectations well.

    In CA they have to be out on closing day. No exceptions unless you decide on your own. The idea being they could trash it after closing & you have no recourse. Most folks wouldn't dream of trashing anything, but there are lots of wackos out there.

    Glad the port removal went well!

    Did 1.5 miles and then lasted a half hour longer at work today than yesterday. yay for me!

    Had kale, quinoa and chicken sausage for lunch. Currently drinking today's smoothie, which turned out even better than yesterday's! YUM!

    Going to a support group tonight for the first time ever, so that's gonna be my mental exercise for today. That counts, right? Alas, I didn't do yoga last night (or the night before), so I won't promise today. We'll see how the evening goes.

    Congrats on being deported, Katy! It's definitely okay that it was an emotional experience, but I think it's removal, along with the new house, are good signifiers that you're getting your life back from cancer.
