Bi lateral mast. and expanders in place since Feb 2nd. Radiation was completed in April. Reconstruction surgery is set for Sept 2nd. Any suggestions on placement? Any suggestions on preparing for this. There will be no nipple reconstruct due to the unexpected need for that previously mentioned radiation. Hoping that this surgery will improve my comfort level, also my ability to get a full nights rest (I start on my back and if I roll to a side . . . I wake up w/pain) Was very active before and hope to get my life back. This is my first post, new to the discussion boards . . . thought I was strong enough to deal on my own but . . .

Hi Stronger - Welcome! Exchange surgery marked the beginning of recovery for me both physically and emotionally. The implants are more comfortable than the expanders and the pecs are starting to get used to the stretching and they calm down. The surgery was not a big deal. My PS is super conservative and I had two drains again and restricted activities for four weeks. Honestly I can barely remember it. You have come so far - you've got this!

PS I had 3-d nipple tattoos done about a year later. One if the best decisions I've made. I love not having to wear a bra if I don't feel like it.

Hello Stronger-1, The exchange surgery is easier. I could only sleep on my back for 5 months and 5 weeks after my exchange surgery I was cleared to sleep on my sides and what a luxury that was! Also, I'm back to trail running like I was before my BMX. I know this isn't easy and quite painful but you've got this girlfriend! Hang in there. You'll be amazed at what you can endure and remember you're not alone as your sisters here on BCO are here for you.

My suggestion is to make sure that you and your PS are on the same page concerning sizing. You should feel some relief after exchange.

I was always a side sleeper but after BMX, starting sleeping on my back. Even now with implants, I am still on my back. The upside is that my lower back pain almost never flares up the way it used to when I slept on my side. come to find out, back sleeping is best position for lower back issues.
