Neulasta commercials are on TV
I just saw a commercial on TV for Neulasta.

must be going off patent soon? Trying to scare up sales
-
In my area, they have had TV ads, on and off, for many years. I clearly remember seeing them, and like so many drug ads, having no idea what it was for prior to my bc dx. I have noticed that there seems to be another big ad campaign lately.
This is the ad I remember. It is from 2004.

got lots of ads in the NY area, have wondered if I should have had it, did not do chemo but ended up way tired and got the lovely shingles after ending rads. Think it would have been over kill for me I guess

This was the first TV ad I had seen for it. It was on a 'national cable channel'. Maybe that SD (South Dakota - no San Diego) is 'out in the boonies' . I had Neulasta almost 6 yrs ago here in SD while on DD A/C. Maybe it's because 1,000,000 bikers are expected here this week for the 75th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally?

I just saw my first one in Oklahoma last week.

I've been seeing them on CNN broadcast out of NY (I live in Burlington, Ontario) - think they must be going off patent - I am not a fan - they shoved these at my husband when he was on dialysis (for five long years) and the shots made him very ill - they had to stop them - I went through heavy duty chemo 7 years ago and onc never suggested them - he just said stay away from runny nosed toddlers and get someone else to clean the litter - I ended up cleaning the litter wearing a mask and gloves - everything was fine.
-
I'm in NY and I have seen the ad, two sisters, one supporting the other with cancer.
-
The one in the ads in LA have the new kind of neulasta that you stick on your arm and it delivers it , I am not sure, on a schedule? Or is a one shot type deal that they stick on you the day of chemo, and you somehow activate it the next? I am not sure, I keep meaning to google it. Since it's going off-patent like you say, it must be for those who live far from the treatment place, or who are squeamish about self injections. Or, the device is now under patent, and it would be a way for the makers to wring more money out. Looked pretty huge.
-
I thought it was only given if your WBC fell below a certain number? Or is Neulasta different from neupogen? My mother got neupogen shots when being treated for multiple myeloma (also was getting aranesp shots). She had to go to the CC twice a week for bloodwork because of the aranesp, and if her WBC fell too low, she got a neupogen shot.
-
They just gave it to me, and I don't know why. I am pretty sure my counts didn't go down that much.
-
Neupogen and neulasta are given when the ANC or absolute neutrophil count are dangerously low. Neupogen is a daily shot, neulasta is a longer lasting shot. Either way they make your bone marrow kick up the production of neutrophils. I'm sure BCO has a page on them.
-
Neupogen and neulasta may be given to prevent counts from dropping. I'm a big fan of them--both my partner and I have had better treatment because of them.
The new device is for administering the post-chemo dose without having to go back to a treatment center the next day. For people who are scared of shots, or who live far from their treatment center, it's great.
-
My shot would be ordered based on the blood counts [white I think] on the lab reports on the days of my chemo treatments. Not sure why they recommended them for the day after. I was able to go to a closer office for the shot rather than to the main office where my oncologist practiced. This helped a lot since I could make the closer drive, while my daughter had been driving me to the farther location. Could not tell a big difference with or w/o shot, but the chemo period was when I was most tired anyway.
Have just noticed the TV ads for Neulasta recently in our area - Memphis, TN, tri-state TV coverage. Wondered why they were appearing, but did not think of patent expiration. Also do not know in what other manner this drug might be used.
-
The neulasta shot must be given at the very least, 22 hours after chemo.
-
I have seen the new one lately with the two sisters but I've seen others for years. I had it in 2005 and for me the purpose was to be able to give treatment every two weeks instead of three. It helped to be able to recover in between treatments enough to get the chemo on that accelerated schedule.
-
Those 2 sisters kind of freak me out.
-
I think they are terrible actors 😜.
