Katy, Katy, Katy! Look at you Ms. Homeowner!!!!!!! So excited!
-
Katy - Glad to hear the tendon's better. Enjoy your romp on the beach. Those of us who are about to sweat salute you....
Kara- very sorry to hear about the strep but glad you're getting it treated. Hope it clears up fast. Take it VERY easy in the meantime, o.k.?
Second to last whole breast and nodes today!!! And it's a good thing. It's not so much my skin but I can definitely feel the tissues underneath tightening up more and more, almost on a daily basis and I am REALLY ready to stop inflicting that damage on my body. -
Celebratory Beach Walk- Faster Than A Speeding Bullet
4200 steps (on the beach! Whoopin' and Hollerin')
Active 50 minutes
1.6 miles
Screw the goal. I'm a homeowner!!!
-
(shrieks in delight) YOU CLOSED!
-
Beach walking is MUCH tougher than on solid ground, Katy. You get an extra piece of chocolate!
-
oh boy!
And I just got a call from the agent that the seller left me their 7 piece outdoor dining set as a little parting gift.
Ding ding ding...just saved some cha-Ching
-
Better and better, Katy!
-
wahoo Katy! Send pics when you can!
3.6 mile beach walk. Was worried about diarrhea after Herceptin infusion, so waiting on a bike ride until tomorrow, 60 miles I think.
-
Congrats Katy, so happy for you! 🎉
Weather finally cooling down today, so went for a 2 mi walk this morning.
PB
-
4 mile walk this morning. I wanted to do more tonight, but it is 8:22 and I just finally ate dinner. Tomorrow I'll get a few more in.
-
In honor of getting my stitches out i:
Ran a trail run that climbed 1500 feet in 4 miles..felt great! On AC half way up I barfed!
Did 100 front, side, and back crunches
did scar tissue mobilization
did PT stretches
did 10 wall pushups.
Ate a salad with blueberries, salmon, and feta cheese for first dinner.
Happy day!
-
The salad sounds perfect LBF... congrats on getting your stitches out. That was a great workout but don't kill yourself!
-
Kbeee, I remember the fun of walking in a surgical boot. You're doing a grand job of showing it who's boss.
-
45 minutes (11 miles) on the bike
Resistance band workout
60 girls' pushups
11,900 steps so far
Penultimate WBI and S/Clav radiation
Going out to water the garden now that it's dropped to the mid-90s along with the sun
Have a great weekend! -
Great to hear successes and hoping for less strep!
It's been over 100F here so I am settling for an hour of slow walking and stretches. I'm not going to spend more time than that in the sun, and the PT's rowing machine is in a room that gets hot. Tomorrow I'll try to work off the birthday treat.
-
Wooohooo! Awesome news Katy! And the parting gift is a great bonus! I'm so happy for you! Your video link of Jack running on the beach reminded me of watching 8 mm movies of my family growing up. Good memories were brought to mind
.
Saw on the news tonight that they are using cameras to monitor Lake Tahoe area for fires now. They saw 3 erupt in one day (I think - chemo brain here so don't trust me) but were able to get to them fast enough to get them out quickly.
Kara - Strep - yuck! Luckily antibiotics should dispense of it quickly and you'll be up and on the run again soon.
What does WBI stand for? Whole breast i???
I used to not be able to tolerate any heat but now after chemo I find that taking a walk when it is still in the mid-80s is tolerable as long as the sun isn't beating down on me. I go in the morning and evening to avoid baking to death.
2 mile walk this morning and a 2 mile walk again this evening. Don't be too impressed. Not exactly setting land speed records here. Thanks Sloth for the extra push to get on this board!
-
Hi, Amy - yes, WBI = Whole Breast Irradiation. Yet another piece of trivia I would be happy to be ignorant of.
Those were good walks, Amy. don't worry about pace; we don't want to lose anyone to heat stroke. -
How did I miss this thread? Not trying to lose weight yet…Although I know it will come. I am not sure if I told you guys I got a Fitbit but it is the most fun thing ever. I had NO idea how many steps I was taking a day. When I workout, I usually get 10k steps in a day. Yesterday I was at 7700 so I walked around the house to get my 10k. It really motivates you a lot. I got the Charge HR because I wanted to monitor my heart rate. It was worth the extra $$ to me. It does so many other things, like tell you how you slept, how many times you woke during the night, how many times you were restless. I could go on and on but even I don't know all the stuff yet.
-
Allison, I just ordered Fitbits for me and my wife. They arrive tomorrow.
-
Did a mile today in hiking boots at my pre-surgery rate, and did it early before it got hot here. WooHoo! Tomorrow I am going for two if I still feel good by this pm. Felt it a bit in my knees, but I always feel it in my knees...
Thinking of following your lead on the Fitbits ksusan, for me and hubby......did you get ones that go on your wrist or ones that goes in a pocket?
-
KSusan, I hope you like your fitbit as much as I like mine!
Allison, I am not trying to lose weight either; just stay in shape for work. I am better when I am accountable.
5.25 walk. It's HOT out!!!!! I hit my 10,000 steps already, which I think gives me permission to sit in the shade by the pool and do nothing (except maybe some laundry) for the remainder of the day.
-
Nice work you guys! 3 fast flat miles plus PT and a fat garden omlet. Heading to Jackson Hole to go hiking in the Tetons!
-
Karen,
I am going to come and join you by that pool!
Susan: I think you will enjoy it. I got the wrist kind.
-
LBF — enjoy your hike. The Tetons are gorgeous!
-
Slludon, I am less than 3 hours from the IL border. Come on out!!!!!!
-
Susan, happy late birthday, and Katy, CONGRATULATIONS on the house!!!
Back from a few days camping north of NYC. I have no idea how much physical activity there was--we did some hiking but also sightseeing. I was on my feet for most of three days, though, except in the car. And how many trips between the car and the tent/picnic table/firepit add up to a mile? (If any of you ever come east, I highly recommend the Franklin Roosevelt house and museum/library. It was wonderful!) Anyway, it was a nice break, even if it did involve challenges like emergency wig maintenance in a campground bathroom stall, while two tiny children and their mother did an endless bedtime routine at the sinks outside. And so, so many mosquitoes! I was exhausted yesterday but fortunately was able to treat myself to a long 3 1/2 hours in the chemo chair, alternately dozing and watching an old episode of my beloved Downton Abbey. (Yes, indeed, I get to have more Taxol while I wait to see the surgeon and get a pet scan. Then we'll see whether the next step is neoadjuvant AC or surgery.)
Today, a long walk around the neighborhood. I have so far resisted buying a device, but since my walking is on city blocks, I counted steps for a couple of long and short blocks and crosswalks and extrapolated to 3704 steps. Fueled by yesterday's steroids, I also bought tomatoes, basil, and assorted other things in the farmer's market and made guacamole and pesto. Love summer foods, even with chemo taste-bud changes!
-
Thanks Rainny- sounds like you got lots of steps in. Good to get away. I've never heard anyone say "treat themselves" when referring to the chemo chair. Haha.
I love Downton Abbey and seasonal foods too!
Planning a little more walking today so I'll save that report for later.
-
34.5 miles on road bike, 800 feet of climbing. Was supposed to come home and go for second ride with hubby, but when I got here he was already gone. Boo! I couldn't call him because my phone was dead, and that also meant I couldn't record my ride. And I pulled into my driveway and my suburban overheated. Now what are the odds of a vehicle that never overheats doing it when I had a dead phone and no charger? Thankfully it waited until I pulled into the driveway.
But hey, I got my ride in!
-
I got the clip-on kind. Neither of us wants something on our wrists all day, and we both already know our sleep is disrupted.
Hot, very hot today. 1.5 hr slow walk in a wooded park.
-
T- awesome ride...you are definitely getting your mojo back. Soooo happy for you as I know what your bike does for your body....and your "head".
Frau D- As I'm sure Hopeful will attest to, 1.5 miles in a hot Portland park is equivalent to 5 miles on a coast trail with a breeze. Well done for getting out there AT ALL!
I'm still feeling a bit sluggish, maybe move stress, so after the great 2015 garden rape and pillage (7 friends digging up my favorite 75 plants) I accomplished:
3,000 steps
1 mile
29 minutes active
Littleblue- I am gobsmacked that you treat your early morning runs as nothing more than a warm up for bigger and better things. What a dream.....hiking the Grand Tetons! You are a rock star and you inspire me. AND entertain me!
