his enthusiasm and friendliness. He still traveled extensively (and doing things like going to language camps) into his mid-80s, published a bi-annual newsletter for his army unit and another for the neighborhood 'gang' he grew up with for decades, and by the time he left a restaurant/sporting event/concert/church/where-ever, he had learned the life story of half the people there and you had to drag him out!
