    Hi All -

I am fairly new to Tamoxifen, less than 1 month. I seem to have alternating times of being cold and then times of being warm. I have been on Effexor since before I started Tamoxifen, although not extremely long. I think that is why I haven't had the traditional hot flashes, more like warm flashes. Another thing that is different for me, is that I have never had a period or any reliable symptoms of ovulation discomfort. I still have my ovaries. Now because of the Tamoxifen, I know that menopause and estrogen levels are dropping. Other than that, I have no frame of reference for what menopause should feel like. Any words of encouragement?

    Beebeth,

My ob/gyn told me that if I have spotting while using tamoxifen to let him know. I reported it to him when I saw some brown spots in my underwear. He did dilation and curettage (D&C) which was done in the hospital under anesthesia to remove tissue from my uterus. You can contact your doctor and ask him what he thinks. They send the tissue removed to the lab for further testing. He also did an ultrasound of the pelvic before doing this procedure. I hope this helps.

    Marie,

When I started Tamoxifen, the first few months I did not have hot flashes either. Maybe the second month, I felt a quick and gentle warm feeling. It took a few months for hot flashes to appear. Maybe Effexor will prevent you from getting severe hot flashes. I am not taking Effexor or any other drug with Tamoxifen. You just have to wait and see what happens. Also, after the hot flashes appeared, there were months after that I did not have any. Then they started again the next month. I hope this helps.

I am adding another link that someone else found regarding Tamoxifen, ovarian cysts, and high estradiol. This study is not as old as the one I posted earlier.

Look around on the "BOTTLE O TAMOXIFEN" thread.  Everyone posts their experiences with se.  You might get some help there.
