Radiation reduction

My mom has Stage IV breast cancer with mets to her cervical lymph nodes and just finished her 5th week of radiation. Originally, she was scheduled to do 35 treatments. Now, they have changed the plan to 45 treatments. Starting today they cut back her radiation time by 9 minutes and will switch her to a different machine for the last 8 treatments. The radiation nurse termed it starting her "reduction." None of this has been explained to her by her radiation oncologist. She sees him on Monday. Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar radiation therapy plan.
