IDC- BMX with close margins-? Radiation

hi all- I had a BMX in May with immediate reconstruction with an implant. I recently found out the anterior margins were clear but close (1mm) and radiation is needed?? I'm concerned what this will do aesthetically to the implant..and where the margin is so close what it would do to my skin?? has anyone encountered this. I don't know what to do

    Hi 4pink101, radiation can be done with the implant in. It will do nothing to the implant but there will be some impact to the tissue surrounding the implant and some cosmetic impact as a result. You might want to discuss the impact with your radiation oncologist and plastic surgeon - a lot depends on your particular situation and what kind of radiation radiation treatment they will want to do.

    I had whole breast radiation with silicone implant in. The radiated breast is slightly perkier and slightly smaller - radiation shrinks tissues - than the non-radiated one, however this is not noticeable when I wear a bras. I am told that my outcome is very typical.
