MRI-guided biopsy - update and waiting

Hi,

I posted here a few weeks ago about being scared to get an MRI-guided biopsy. Thank you all for your support - it was very helpful.

I had the biopsy last week and is finally over. It was really awful, actually. I spent more than an hour on the table in an incredibly uncomfortable position. But I'm so thankful it's done. The worst part was being on the table for that long. The recovery after that was easy. I was a bit sore but it really wan't bad.

But now that I'm past my initial relief at being done with the biopsy, I'm getting really anxious about the fact that I still don't have results. I called today (a week later), and they said they're still not back.

The radiologist who did the biopsy had told me that I could call for the results in a week. Then she added, "But we generally call you sooner than that if it's malignant." So I'm hoping - praying - that no news is good news.

Does what the doctor told me seem right, in your experience? Do they generally call early if it's bad news but take their own sweet time when it's good news??

Jk, I think all it has to do with is how busy the pathology lab happened to be. Don't try to read anything into it taking longer. Your biopsy must have been right after the holiday weekend too. That puts everyone behind

Called today, and the person who answered said she'd ask a doctor (radiologist) to call me back this afternoon to discuss the results. No call. Called again just as they were about to close and was told again that the doctor would call me either today or tomorrow morning at the latest.

I'm starting to get frustrated. This is a breast center with a great reputation. Until now, they've always been very quick and conscientious about following up and giving me results. (Maybe that's changed now because my biopsy results are benign and therefore low priority? Sorry ... I know I shouldn't speculate, but I can't help hoping!)

jk2468 my two MRIs (one with guided biopsy) were scheduled by my BS who I was referred to after initial needle biopsy by radiologist. Each time I saw BS for results within a week of MRI. I'm sorry you are having to wait. Hugs to you.

    Dear jk2468:

I am sorry that you have to wait.  Good luck with the results.  Waiting sucks.

Hey - thank you all for the support!! Just to let everyone know that the results came back benign, after 10 days of waiting. SO relieved!

But I am *still* having trouble getting a copy of the pathology report. (I want to see for myself what it says.) I do not think I will be going back to that place for mammograms again!

So glad you have benign results and must be a BIG relief after your extended wait time. You can now get back on track with your life as lived pre-biopsy. You are right in wanting to see the results yourself and if you have questions, get them answered.
