Flat Epithelial Atypia-Anyone else?
Hello all!
Just wondering if anyone else has Flat Epithelial Atypia. I know it's not common but I would love to hear others experiences.
I have a 2nd opinion with a BS in a few weeks. Going crazy with the wait and there isn't much info out there about these cells.
I know FEA is not generally considered "at risk", but I still don't like the fact that I have anything "abnormal" near a 2.5cm lump. Thanks!

Dear Sanduchi:I had FEA. The original biopsy from years ago said that I had fibroadenomateous hyperplasia. I had the lump re-biopsied after my bc diagnosis - in a different lump. The dx in the first non-bc lump changed from FH to FEA. I was having a lumpectomy for my bc (PILC and PLCIS) so I asked my bs to remove the FEA lump as well. It was large - 3.5 cm and palpable. Nothing showed up on the mammo or US though for this lump. The pathology report for this lump stated that, not only did I have FEA, but I also had PLCIS, Invasive Tubular Carcinoma, PASH (benign), sclerosing adenosis (benign), and other benign findings as well. My original lump with the bc had also previously been biopsied years ago and was benign as well. The bs told me that the PILC and the PLCIS grew in the lump.
I am extraordinarily lucky. My malignancies were diagnosed because I was lucky enough to have a radiologist who noticed the changes to my original lump. Lobular is so hard to detect and it is sneaky. I am so fortunate that I was diagnosed at an early stage and that the other malignancy was found as well. Everything about my situation is unusual and uncommon.
My doctors were superb and I am very fortunate.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do. The waiting, wondering, and not knowing is awful. I will pray for you.

Wow, thanks so much for sharing your experiences. I'm so sorry they did actually find something, but you are right, you sure are lucky to have great doctors who cared enough to keep looking.
I know there's a high probability that my FEA lump isn't hiding something "nastier" in or near it, but the fact that there is no clear cut treatment plan for FEA and it's such a gray area between doctors makes me happy I am getting a second opinion. Now, if only August 4th could hurry up and get here...
Blessings to you

Dear Sanduchi:
I know what you mean. Waiting weeks for an appointment is so stressful. I will pray that all goes well. Hopefully, everything will be benign. If they put you on a 6 month surveillance then that might give you peace of mind and less worry. Good luck.

Hey all, not sure if anyone is still seeing this as it feels like I was waiting forever for my second opinion!
I met with the bs who was wonderful! She made me feel so comfortable and really explained everything. I now need to have an excisional biopsy, but the bs said it will be more like a lumpectomy as she needs to take some layers of tissue around the lump just to make sure. The surgery will most likely be in October, due to vacations and things in the next few months.
Many thanks to all for the encouragement and support. Hopefully this is the end of my breast woes!

Dear Sanduchi:
I am glad that you are having an excisional biopsy. That will end your fears and anxiety because the FEA will be totally removed. It sounds like you really like and trust the bs which is phenomenal. Your wait was long but at least you have a plan now and the waiting is over. October will be here before you know it. Have a great time on your vacation. I am hoping that you are the one going on vacation (enjoy) rather than the vacation being on the part of the bs! Good luck with the surgery and I wish you the best.
