Waiting on MRI for my surgery choice

I was leaning towards having a mastectomy. But from what my surgeon says, the area in question is very small. However, I have very dense breasts and that is why I'm waiting to make my final decision. Now, as I read more and more on the lumpectomy with radiation, I'm feeling confident that that may be the better choice.

I'm so confused, but in the end it is my body and my choice.

Any thought?

Thanks!

My only thought is that if you have a lumpectomy and aren’t pleased (e.g. find worrying about a recurrence too stressful), you can always go back and have a mastectomy, but once you’ve had the mastectomy the breast is gone and can’t be put back, so if you have any doubts I wouldn’t have the mastectomy if you don’t need one.

do you have any reason to do the genetic testing? My positive result made the decision for me

I too have dense breasts. I am having a double mastectomy in Aug. I met with a breast surgeon today for a 2nd opinion. I have DCIS in my left breast. I was giving all the options. I questioned my right breast when we were looking at my MRI. There seems to be something pretty small. Pathologist recommends MRI in 6 months and says it's probably benign. Right there I knew my decision was final. The breast surgeon even agreed with me. She also said that they will be taking my nipples since my DCIS is close to one. You will make the right decision for yourself. I always go with my gut feeling. Good luck to you.
