Got results of ultrasound/waiting MRI
I am so nervous now.
Ladies, any help?
I've waited 10 days for my results. An office lady calls and says "dr is getting authorization for an MRI. Your ultrasound was abnormal and we need a better look".
I'm so scared that I've waited this long and I've gotten worse?
I'm going to go pick up the report myself.

Hoping for a benign result, JesusLVS. Abnormal could be a benign change. Luckily, your doc is doing his/her best to get you definitive answers.
-
Laura-thank you. I'm hoping so too. I'm 28 yrs old, have been having let down/engorged feeling, itchy nipple. I went to the dr and actually picked up the ultrasound report because I wanted to know. The dr didn't even call me! The office staff just said it's abnormal. The report looks scary but I'm trying to just be positive.

Did they see a suspicious mass? What about a biopsy ? My MRI was after the biopsy that confirmed cancer. I hope you get good news.
-
there was a simple cyst and enlarged lymph node BUT I suppose that wasn't the worry? I am really in shock that it's even going this far, to need a MRI. Do you know what any of this might mean?

-
The report sounds like they really don't know from the ultrasound, mine clearly show 2 solid irregular shaped tumors, they were quickly biopsied. From that I had MRI to confirm the extent of my tumors.
The MRI I hope will confirm you are ok. Your ultrasound is inconclusive.

meow-I probably shouldn't be googling BUT is the heterogenous, posterior acoustical attenuation, abnormal echogenicity something to worry about???
-
also, I just didn't like that a dr didn't even explain it to me. The ultrasound tech is the one who put all this worry in my head. Saying things like "I've only seen this one other time" "so weird, it's like your milk duct system is being affected"...
From what I'm reading on here I will probably need a biopsy if something is found to just rule it out? I've had what felt like a pulled muscle in the very center of my chest about 4 inches above sternum since September. Now I'm convincing myself it was a chest wall tumor:( I really admire you all so much. All of this is so unnerving and I just am so grateful for your responses.

I had a suspicious area and architectural distortion that in the end pathology from my mastectomy prove to be normal tissue after all. I think the MRI is a wonderful tool for them to get a better idea. The MRI results matched the end pathology I have more confidence in the MRI than the ultrasound. For me the ultra sound didn't tell the complete story. It is because of the U/S that the tumor board recommended mastectomy I really could have had a lumpectomy. But I look at it this way I would not have known that suspicious area was normal after all if I had not had the mastectomy

this week has been so frustrating. A lot of tears and maybe even some cursing at office staff..:( and I finally have appts for Monday! The office staff kept screwing up my referrals, by the time they were right the diagnostic center didn't have any appts for another month. So I called another radiology center, told them I don't care if I have to pay out of pocket I want an appt. there is a chance that my drs office will get off their butts and authorize these tests before Monday and I won't have to pay but in any case, at least I'm getting it done. I normally am the most cordial person and would never act like that..BUT waiting 3 weeks for something so simple and after an abnormal ultrasound, enough was enough. Be your own advocate right?
So after the abnormal ultrasound I had I will now be having a MRI on Monday and then a couple hours later my diagnostic mammogram. My questions are this: is it normal to have both of those tests ordered after ultrasound? Can you tell me anything about the breast specific MRI? I just want to know what all this is. I'm getting twinges in my arm pits, have had muscular feeling chest pain since September, now itchy breast and feeling of tingles and let down. So weird.
-
meow-I also want to thank you for your replies. I pray you are doing well and I thank you for your time and honesty!
-
my biopsy was done first too. My MRI is next Monday. Unfortunately I'm positive. I'm really glad I have all of you. Thank you
-
Lila - I am so sorry you received a positive diagnosis, but know that we are here for you if you need us. My first cancerversary was on Saturday, 7/11 and I'm still here and so far NED! Hugs!!!
-
JesusLVS, what is happening? I hope you had an MRI. I just got my health insurance declining the 2500 dollar MRi. I received the notice on a Friday of course. But I called Monday and they did cover all but 125 dollars. I hope you get accurate results thank goodness mine was good NED.

Hi all. I am a two-time cancer survivor, not breast; had a malignant melanoma at age 21 and cervical cancer at age 27. As a result of a palpable lump, I had a mammo (showed nothing) and then Ultrasound which showed the lump. I saw the surgeon last Thurs. and he said from looking at the US and physical exam that he thinks the biopsy will be "bad". I made sure he clarified because by this point my ears were buzzing and he told me again he wasn't 100% sure, but that I should be prepared for the result to be cancer. Of course, I'm petrified. The good news is that he said the lump is small, although to me it feels as big as a 50 cent-piece. I have my follow-up with the surgeon on 7/21 for the results. Trying to breathe and take it one-day-at-a-time. Thanks.

The scary news from MRI was two questionable spots that could be lymph nodes or not. Was then scheduled for another U/S with possible needle biopsy. I had the same Radiologist work with me (which was comforting) and he felt the spots were just lymph nodes and not necessary to have another biopsy. A big sigh of relief.
I had the opportunity to attend a 2nd Opinion Clinic at a larger hospital about 90 min. from home and they concur with all the findings of my original surgeon/pathologist and gave me some good questions for my RO. All-in-all I'm doing ok and am anxiously awaiting lumpectomy and whatever that path report brings. This Board has brought me lots of comfort and gratitude. Thanks to all who participate. Ruth Ann
