Pain in shoulder blade
I have been having pain in my shoulder blade since feb. Thought it was a pulled muscle and tried not to use right arm to heal it. Next went to chiropractor for a month but this didn't help. Went to my family Dr who thought it might be gallstones. So had a ultrasound which showed one large stone. I had gallbladder surgery a week ago today but still having pain in my shoulder blade. I am convinced it could be met to shoulder blade. Has anyone had shoulder blade pain which turned out to be mets. Hurts the most when laying down at night. I thought I was good since it has been almost 6 years since being dx.

Icey:I do have a met in my scapula right side and it is continuously achey as I am right handed and use my right side constantly but I also had gall stones(years before my cancer diagnosis) and I also had pain in my shoulder at the time and even after surgery it persisted-my dr said it had something to do with the gases they use to blow the area up when they operate. You know your body better then anyone and if you feel strongly that something may be going on then ask/demand a bone or pet scan. When I was diagnosed at stage 4 with multiple bone mets I had zero pain even now two years later the only met I have pain with is my shoulder and it is controlled with otc meds. I hope it's just residual from your gall stones but it's always better to be safe get checked and u will know one way or the other. Let me know what happens.

I have an appointment tomorrow with the surgeon to take my staples out. I am going to ask if I need further testing to find out if this pain is could be mets. If you google bone mets it says the first sign is pain. I haven't been to an oncologist in a few years. I might just ask my family Dr for an X-ray of my shoulder blade or an Mir to make sure there is no spots on my bone. I just think it is strange I have to take pain medicine at round the clock and especially before bed time. Laying down make the problem worse

Hope the appointment goes well!

Icey:many times mets are undetected on X-rays a bone scan is one of the diagnostic scans to have to rule out mets-my mets never showed up on X-ray and at the time of diagnosis I had zero pain and to this day have very little pain so having pain doesn't apply to everyone. Hope you get the answers you need.

Thanks party offive I went and saw my surgeon today. He thinks I have bursitis. But he told me to have my family Dr order a bone scan to make sure if I am concerned. I wonder if an mri would show none met? It will show bursitis. If it would show both things then it might make more sense to have MRI. I will ask family Dr about this. I would love.for this pain to be bursitis!!

icy...I've had all kinds of issues with both shoulders that ultimately led to surgery in each shoulder. I HATED going to bed because laying in the bed made the pain worse. In the morning I was fatigued and my body would shake from the pain. I was convinced it was mets. However, the various issues in my shoulders gave me acute bursitis. Surgery resolved all my pain. I hope you feel better soon!

Thanks various raeder I feel better after reading you post. The more I read about bursitis it seem to fit with what I have been feeling. So hopefully I can find out for sure soon and get treatment for this!!
