Pain management doctor is stressing me out
I have stage 4 triple negative breast cancer. It has spread to my pancreas my condition is stabilized I have been on pain meds for over a year I'm on my third pain management doctor this doctor wants me to have some kind of nerve blocker done to take me off some of my meds. I don't want to do this I'm tired of getting poked with Needles and the process only last maybe 4 to 6 months then what? My pain is under control with my meds but she keeps insisting I get this done. She is starting to stress me out over this she already reduced my anti-anxiety medicine down to a half a milligram. My condition is stabilized but ithe cancer is still there it's just not growing or doing anything right now I'm on chemo which has been working so far. How can I get this doctor to quit insisting I have these needles put in my back when I don't want to do it?

I'm sorry you're dealing with this. I think it's time for a new doc.

What a travesty of medical management. Is there a reason you need to stay with this physician? Insurance, access to specialty care?
Have you had this conversation with your physician? Consider bringing back-up (husband, friend, sister, mom) and in a very specific, non-confrontational manner, explain to your doctor how you feel and what you want. Pain control doctors are specialists in finding ways to control pain, including non-opioid management, but the needs and desires of patients are very individual.

Please get a new pain doc. This is absolutely outrageus. If possible, I would have an appointment with a psychiatrist and you could have meds prescibed though him/her. So sorry you are going thru this. Personally, I'd report this doc to the Medical Board.

It's your body, and you no doubt have a pretty good instinct about what's good for it. What's the rationale behind her wanting to make a switch from something that's working? Are your pain meds causing other issues?
IMO, stressing you out totally merits a change -- or at least a second opinion, so that you know what you'd be getting into if you make a switch. Hopefully another pain doc will be more supportive of your preferences! (((Hugs))), and don't let any doc bully you into doing something you're against! Deanna

I go to a cancer institute which has there own pain management department. Any pain or anti anxiety medication I have to get through my pain management doctor. My pain is managed just fine through my meds I'm not really comfortable with this doctor so it's hard for me to discuss anything with her. I told her I was fine with the way things were I just wish she would quit asking me to have this nerve blocker thing done.

I know it's been a while since any posts on this thread so there may not be anyone reading it.
I just have to reiterate what others have said. Don't EVER let any doc, surgeon, onc etc talk you into something you're not comfortable with.
I've turned down so many procedures and meds.
My psychiatrist at the Cancer Center even said I'm not there to stroke anyone's ego. I'm there to get the help I need and do what's comfortable for me.
Just stick to your guns and maybe he/she will start working with you.
I'm so sorry you're going through this.
