Pre-surgery and trying to get supplement/food plan together

I'm going to have surgery soon (at least 1 mastectomy plus ovary removal) and I'm trying to avoid having to take any long-term meds and refuse to do chemo, plus of course, avoid recurrence or spread. I really believe that food is medicine and that if we bolster our immune system and give it what it needs that our bodies can do amazing things to heal.

As background, I've been vegan for about 10 years and vegetarian for at least 10 years before that. Unfortunately, I've always been a junk food junkie, even as vegan. I'm overweight (BMI 31) and don't enjoy exercising because of lots of pain and fatigue issues related to fibromyalgia.

Now that I've received a very harsh wake up call (IDC), I'm determined to improve my health, lose weight, and have many productive and happy years with my wife (when we got married 2 months ago I had no idea any of this would happen--it's all happened so fast!). I have been studying nutrition for years, and am currently majoring in it in college, so my interest and knowledge is definitely helpful while I try to figure out my wellness path.

So far, aside from mass quantities of veggies, I have decided to take the following supplements. Some I'm taking now pre-surgery to get myself into a better space (especially my gut since it has such an immunity role), but some will be taken or upped after surgery to heal, then some will be discontinued after awhile for maintenance. I'd love to get feedback from those who take these or take different ones and why. Knowledge is power, right? :)

Vitamin D3 vegan 5000 IU
Probiotics 70 billion CU
Omega 3 from algea
Calcium/magnesium
Vitamin C raw mega
Astragalus
Tumeric
Digestive enzymes
Green plant powder
Protein powder (only for after surgery)

I'd like to add apricot kernals plus cannabis oil for sleep (I have insomnia and really need to sleep better--I am sure poor sleep has contributed to my unhealthy state)

I'm so sorry to hear about dx.  I waiting for some biopsy results today.  I became vegan in June with my LCIS dx.  I try for only organic for the"dirty dozen"and throughly wash all produce.  I've been doing a lot of research on food and supplements for healing.  I too believe food is medicine.  I take the following:

    Vitamin D3 2,000

    Vitamin B12

    Vitamin B2

    Biotin

I was taking an omega 3/6 fish oil supplement and turmeric, but stopped.  Fish oil because of the blood thinning properties and turmeric because research is a little so/so on one.

I've been following Dr Fuhrmans super immunity since my lcis dx and I feel better and sleep better.  Hope this helps.

    Sending positive thoughts and hugs.

Thanks for your input :) What's the reasoning for the biotin? I haven't seen anything against tumeric so I'll have to look into that some more. If you're still interested in getting omega 3 there is some not based on fish or on flax, it's derived from algae. Don't know if that causes the same blood thinning concern you have.

Best wishes to you on your biopsy results.

Thanks for the info about the algae omega 3.  I will have to look into that.  Biotin is something I've used off and on for a few years.  It helps with hair, nails.  I knew a cancer patient many years ago that used this.  I do notice a difference during the periods I don't use it.

My biopsy came back B9! But the radiologist wasn't 100% positive it was the same area.  The biopsy was an us guided and the nodule was found on an MRI, so I am going back on 7/21 for another MRI and if need be another biopsy.  The BS believes it is the same area, but wants to be a 100%.  I'm ok with that.

Best wishes on your upcoming surgery.  You will do just fine.
