Diagnosed in June, Awaiting surgery
I felt a lump in my right breast at the beginning of April. In May, my doctor said not to worry, but scheduled me for a mammogram and ultrasound. I was diagnosed with a core biopsy in earlyJune, and the MRI showed another nearby spot that also Biopsied positive.
It's grade 2, her2 negative and hormone receptor positive. I'm 53 with no family history of breast cancer. I had the BRACA testing done because I also had stage 1 rectal Cancer in 2013.
It looks like I'll be having mastectomy and reconstruction. I meet with the surgeon on Monday. I'm most concerned about recovery. I have a 16 year old son with cerebral palsy, and I do a lot of lifting. I'm lining up my support team, but I am scared. I also have a 19 years ol daughter in college.
Anyone else in a similar situation

Hi Carolyn,
I was diagnosed with IDC in June. I am waiting for my lumpectomy scheduled for July 29th. I too have a teenager with special needs. My son just turned 17 and is full care. I have been working on lining up extra nursing care and getting some help for my husband who already works so hard. I also take care of my 3 year old grandson in the mornings so my daughter is rearranging her schedule. It is very scary when we have so many people depending on us. I am sorry you are going through a second cancer. I cannot imagine how frightened you are. I will be praying for you.

Hi, I am 42 and had a mastectomy (no recon) 2 weeks ago and I was back to driving and normal activities within a few days. I can't advise about the recon side as I don't think I will be choosing that option as the more I consider it, the less appealing it is to me. All the very best

Thanks for your reply! May I ask why you're opting to not have reconstruction? That thought has crossed my mind, but I haven't met with the plastic surgeon yet. It would mean less recovery, and I'm all for that.

Hi Molly! So happy to hear from someone who also has a teenager that is total care. I'd like to chat with you more. My email is holisticnurse82@yahoo.com
I'm trying to line up extra coverage for Daniel as well, but I am his main caregiver. It is scary, but I know I'll get through it. What is your son's disability? Mine was born with primary microcephaly in 1998

Hi Carolyn,
My son had encephalitis at age 7 months. He was left with extensive brain damage and a rare seizure disorder.
I will drop you an email as soon as I get a chance!
