I had a physical 2 weeks ago where my doctor found a lump. I had an ultrasound a week ago & it can back clean. No lump to be seen. I asked if I could have further testing so I had a mammogram yesterday. I was told it was clean & again no lump-- by not only the radiologist but doctors office as well. Again, I asked what my next step could be as there is a lump & im having pain. My doctors office called me back & told me that my record says there is a beginning looking lymph node! What in the heck?! I am so confused as to why I was told 2x that my mamo was clean. I am being referred to a breast surge one. So I sound crazy for wanting answer and?? I am 32 & my family has a history of breast cancer. Anyone else have this happen to them? I'm confused, worried & scared! All I know, is that I am my best advocate & I'm just trying to do what's right! It is MY life after all isn't it?

AmberDen, welcome to Breastcancer.org, where you will find a wealth of knowledge and experience. We're so sorry for the worry that brings you here, but we're so glad you've joined us.

Looks like you are going step by step, and now the best thing for you to do is have the breast surgeon check that lump. We know it is scary, but you're young and the odds that this is something as serious as breast cancer are very, very small.

Please keeps us informed on how the appointment goes!

I just got my results back as well. Clean mammogram and ultrasound. Said lymph nodes looked fine as well. That shes 99.99% certain theres no cancer. Still my pcp and I both felt the lump. I'm not sure what to do. Going to follow up with pcp and get referral to a breast surgeon, maybe?

    Dear AmberDen:

Please obtain a copy of your pathology report.  That is important.

To ease your mind, it frequently occurs that a lump can be felt but that lump is not seen on a mammogram or on a sonogram.  The important thing is that you trust your doctor and that you get regular mammogram's and sonograms.  You know your body so trust your "gut instincts".  I would definitely recommend the 3D mammogram over the 2D.  If your family has a history of breast cancer then you may want to consider genetic testing for BRCA 1 and BRCA 2 mutations.

I'm glad that your results are benign.
