Sore pimple-looking bump on clavicle
I'm kind of newly about a pimple on my clavicle that has a weird bio-consistency. It is painful to the touch. I never really get any pimples so it has me nervous as it is on my right side - my BC side. I will be showing it to my dermatologist next who is monitoring me from my history of skin cancer. He can look at it under a microscope. My appointment isn't until 8/25. If it doesn't seem to be going away in the next couple of weeks, I will move up my appointment and possibly go see my Radiation Oncologist. I just kind of hate to over-play the panic card with my doctors as I have done that before. Anyone have anything like this that turned out to be something serious? I have searched other topics but didn't hit on anything. I'm also having a lymphedema flare-up right now so wondering if there is any connection - although probably not that likely. I think the flare-up started when I lifted cat litter a few days ago.

Hi Maria:
I have not had something like that. Not sure what it could be. But after surgery, I asked my breast surgeon what to look for as possible signs of local recurrence. She said to call her office if I get a nodule like a mosquito bite that doesn't go away like normal. As I recall, (other than an urgent situation like an infection), if you see a change and it doesn't go away in 2 weeks, take action. Don't hesitate to at least call the office of your breast care team. I don't think a reasoned inquiry is over-playing the panic card. Perhaps they will want to see you sooner than 8/25, and hopefully it is something benign.

Thanks. I'm totally freaked out about this tonight and feel alone in a world where people around me seem to have problems only born from extreme luxury while I'm afraid of losing my reconstruction, hair, job, home, health and life. I feel the weight of this crushing down on me. My arm is giant and swollen. Hating all of this today. It doesn't really seem like a bug bite or pimple. Searched around for pics to compare but couldn't find anything.

mariasnow,
Gosh, I know this is tough for you, but hang on it may well be nothing of consequence ,but I do agree that it needs to be checked. It sounds like you may have lymphedema or even worse cellulitis * sp? That may need checking out very soon - I got it once and got ill quite quickly.
Please know that you are not alone! - but I so understand that freaked out feeling. I have it too, when I notice something new/odd.
It would be great to hear that someone is going to look after you, so please check it out!

Maria - Hoping to reduce your anxiety. My br surgeon gave me clinical exams for about 2-3 years. He told me he was looking for "little bumps". He would look very carefully for little tiny things.
At my very last exam, he says "oh what's that bump?" HUH? And there, right on my MX scar was a big red thing - in fact it looked like a bug bite, he thought. I thought so too, as just that morning I'd noticed a flea jump off my lap! I had to tell him & he just laughed & said yup they're out & about. I told him I was relieved I did not bring any fleas to the dr's office, I hoped!
You have cats. it's hot. Flea season perhaps? These are not the kind of "little bumps" he was looking for. He just said well if it's still there in 3 months you'll have to get it biopsied...and it just went away, like any other flea bite, in about 2-3 weeks.
IMHO, I do not think this sounds like a sign of recurrence. I hope this lets you sleep easier.

Maria:
I am so sorry you are going through this uncertainty and worry now, with so many other worries. I don't want to freak you out, but also don't want you to hesitate to seek appropriate care
Even if it turns out to be nothing, it makes sense to check it out
You asked if the symptoms could be connected. Is it possible there is some local infection or cellulitis (as asked above)? I don't know very much about lymphedema complications, but such a situation would be very urgent according to step-up lymphedema web site. Please check out this discussion if you have never dealt with cellulitis before:

They give also good tips about not hesitating to seek timely help.

Thanks for your thoughts, Ladies. Well I decided I will wait the 2 weeks and it it's not better get on moving up my appointment.
In terms of LD - I do have it and am in treatment for it. I have an appointment with my LD therapist tomorrow for wrapping. I don't think I have cellulitis because I don't feel horrible but it is probably borderline. It sucks because I had lymph node transfer earlier this year and hoped to get passed this LD. My docs say if can take w year or more for the new lymph vessels to grow and improve my situation.
I will try not to freak out. I haven't told my boyfriend because I haven't wanted to put him into the panic I am in.

Hi Mariasnow: Glad you're seeing the lymphedema therapist and can get her input as a professional (versus us!). Hope it goes away soon--your two-week plan makes sense in the interest of not worrying all summer. If they think it's dermatological, then you'll have that appointment set up already.

I got some lymphedema care so that is good. Going to PT is both good for me physically and good for my self-esteem. I will be watching my new spot.
-
Lymphedema is a bit better after some wrapping, PT, and following a better diet for the past week. Because I had picked at the "spot", it is hard to tell what is going on there. I need to leave it alone for a couple of weeks and then see where it stands. Thanks for the love, ladies!

Decided to hold out until my 8/25 Derm appointment. My mom passed away. No bandwidth.
-
Mariasnow. I am so sorry to hear that. I have been wondering where you were, and how you were doing. Sending a long and gentle hug your way
-
Thank you,, Tomboy. Things have been especially challenging lately. I'm in the world between cancer and trying to find my way back to life. Meanwhile friends I made on the survivor road have been leaving the Earth around me. Somehow I keep prevailing.

Mariasnow, I am so sorry for your loss. I don't come here often but noticed your post. When I was in the Herceptin and then Neratinib trial phase of my own treatment, I developed small, irritable, pimple like bumps in strange places from time to time. I had one show up under my arm on the no-nodes side, for example, and nearly fell out of the shower in fear. It was a Saturday morning of course.
I had a standing scrip for Keflex, started it right away, and that kind of knocked it out. After a few similar bouts, I went to my dermatologist, who had me culture the next one, and it turned out to be an infection like staph or something.
These continued for a while and then stopped--I haven't refilled the Keflex since 2013, and I think the last scrip is expired.
Because it was usually on the side that I worry about--I have mild lymphedema--I never wanted such an infection to proliferate or strengthen so the strategy was to get on it fast.
At the time, my oncologist said that if one of these ever failed to cooperate to get in there and get it examined more closely.
I hope this helps, and that your path becomes more peaceful.
Warmly,
Cathy

My plan right now is to have my dermatologist look at it next week. I have had basal cell previously so that is also a possibility. I will see what he says and what it looks like next week and then go from there. I'm leaving for vacation on 9/18 and have resolved to not have this worry hanging over my head on vacation.
-
Hi Mariasnow:
I was thinking about you the other day too. I am so sorry to hear about your mother.
Glad you will be seen next week. Hoping for something benign.

Thanks for the good thoughts BarredOwl. I also made an appointment with my Radiation Oncologist on 9/11 so I get two opinions.
-
Hi All, I went to a dermatologist today whose specialty is cancer. He looked at my interesting spots under a microscope and also took computerized photos for a deeper look. He said he was 100% confident that there is no cancerous activity in those spots or anywhere in my radiated area. He said one spot is the beginning of a skin tag and because I picked at it a few months back it also has scar tissue mixed in. He said the other spot is the beginnings of a benign mole. He recommended I hold off until October for my second opinion to give both time to develop - the scar tissue to further lose its color and see if the mole takes off. I'm following his advice. I also got a head to toe skin check and nothing was suspicious. I decided to not miss more work and make myself crazy with an unnecessary trip to The Cancer Center. I'm scheduled to go in October anyway. I called the nurse at my Radiation Oncologist and she supported my plan and will also relay it to my doctor. I think I'm in the clear on this one at the moment folks!!!!

Hi Mariasnow:
Thank you for the update. Terrific news. What a relief!
