Met with the MO. Feel much better

I met with my MO this morning. He said after they cut this out and get clear margins I will be cured of this cancer. Or if in the off chance there is a little invasion, I will be fine. I will be no worse then stage I.

I agreed to do tamoxifen for 5 years after my brachytherapy (internal radiation).

Even though I'm only 46,I am post menopausal because of my hysterectomy and BSO 2 years ago. He said for DCIS there is not enough supporting evidence to us an AI at this time so we are sticking with tamoxifen. If it changes in the future I can always change but for DCIS tamoxifen is the gold standard.

And I found out my MO used to live down the street from me. Small world. I didn't know him when he lived here. It's California, we don't do the neighborly thing much.

Next week is the RO.

Glad you are feeling better about things!

I actually had an appointment with my MO today as well and he mentioned that several AI’s have been found to be effective for DCIS, but since I am still premenopausal, I will be sticking with the Tamoxifen.

I think that even if I were post-menopausal though, with only DCIS-mi, I would probably stick with the tamoxifen. It’s probably slightly less effective than AI’s, but since post-menopausal osteoporosis is a big problem in my family, I’d rather avoid the bone-weakening SE’s of the AI’s. If I was a higher stage though I might feel differently.
