I need opinions on what I should do! Radiologist and surgeon said that my lump is almost certainty just a fibroadenoma which is wonderful but the surgeon said that it could increase in size and sensitivity with hormones such as during pregnancy and breastfeeding... We will be ttc around th end of the year but not necessarily preventing until then... This past week I noticed my fibroadenoma is softer maybe even a little smaller... Should Ijust go ahead and remove it that way it for sure won't cause problems in the future and ill know 100% that it was just a fibroadenoma? What would you do?

25 years ago, they found one of those about a month after I finished chemo for TN Breast cancer , it was in my other Breast. Anyway, even though they told me it was nearly 100% benign, I just was so paranoid I wanted it out, but that was me, miss paranoid. BTW, it just just benign ... Nothin' but I felt better with it gone. Totally up to you in this case

    hi,

When it's gone, you re done with the what ifs. I got rid of my fat necrosis because I kept getting birads 3 and couldn't deal with what ifs and pain.

I have a fibroadenoma in my remaining breast and they never suggested, or offered, to remove it. It was biopsied and they are 100% sure that's what it is, and they are completely benign, so no reason to do anything about it.

As of right now the insurance I have will not cover any of my appointments so all I've had was an ultrasound that they said it was a fibroadenoma they haven't offered a biopsy they pretty much said remove it or leave it... So should I at least request tohave it biopsied or just trust that the radiologist has seen enough to confirm through ultrasound only... I can't afford removal right now

    Hi

This article could help you make a decision:

    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC149702...

To sum things up: if over 35yo; if fibro over 1 inch; or if fibro increasing in size, remove. Else leave it.

I have a few of these, and one of them proved useful as it showed there were cancerous cells in its environment. I had a FNA 3 years ago which came back totally negative for neoplasia (not even the hint of any changes, and the sample had gone to one of the very best labs in my country). We continued to watch these breasts as they are very dense (ultrasound scans) and 2 years after the FNA the fibro had unexpectedly had a growth spurt (30%). We biopsied it twice and found some lobular. However everything is staying in at the moment as I have a lot of issues with work and accommodation plus paying for treatment and the surgeon thinks we can take the risk. So I'd stay leave the fibro as it is as it can prove really useful as it will respond to any changes in your breasts, despite not being malignant itself.

Also if you are pregnant wait till well after the end of the pregnancy to remove the fibro: this will give it a chance to get back to a more normal size, and will save you the trauma of a big lumpectomy. You can also have fibros removed by HIFU (high intensity focused ultrasound - basically burns them - same principle as radiation for cancerous cells but less side effects and no need for anesthesia, unlike a lumpectomy) but it may not be available where you are.

    Wishing you all the best.
