Thanks everyone for the thoughts, prayers, and well wishes. Good luck Sailorgirl! Funny, I owned a sailboat six years ago before moving from Charleston, SC. I miss it

Good luck to all the ladies that have surgery tomorrow!! the best advice I can give is to rest when your body tells you to. I slept in 3 hour intervals the first night home. I also got extremely sick because I apparently lost a lot of blood during surgery and tried to do too much when I got home. Throwing up is no fun...especially when your chest is all stitched together! The pain has been intense at times, but it is starting to get better, and i have come to terms with how my boobs look right now. I just pat them and tell them, "soon you will be back to normal, girls" lol. The range of motion that I have is far more than what I expected , so that is nice, but it is still a task just to wipe myself. One last tip: If you are prone to getting yeast infections when you are on an antibiotic, let the doctor know. They can write a prescription for an anti-yeast pill. I forgot to ask for it until I got home...and was already extremely uncomfortable. I hope you are all doing well <3

Hi Emmy thanks for checking in! Wow on the losing blood -- I asked my bs and my ps if I should donate blood and they were like "naaaahhhh" -- so yikes! Also, where do you feel the pain mostly? is it your pec muscles spasming do you think? and do you have muscle relaxants?

Thanks SugarCakes. My lumpectomy is tomorrow. I'm lying awake with severe heartburn trying to relax! Good luck to everyone and prayers for good results and for guidance for our surgeons.

Thanks ipsy and others. I will fill you all in when I know the results. From the biopsy they know there is a lymph node that has it, but I am praying it is the only one and hoping I can therefore escape chemo. Fingers crossed and best of luck to all who are heading in this week.

Sorry Sailorgirl. I didn't realize you have a node involved. (I was just going off of your Dx that appears below your posts. Since it lists DCIS, I didn't know you have lymph involvement.) I hope you can get some rest tonight!

Sugarcakes, I have family in the Raleigh area! It's a beautiful place with several excellent medical facilities. Where are you going for your surgery?

Hi Poppy, I'm at Duke Raleigh Hospital off Wake Forest Road. My BS and MO are from Duke, but have offices in Raleigh.

Just waiting for them to come get me and start the anesthesia. Had the injection for the SND a little while ago. It hurt for a second of two; much better than I had anticipated. They told me they switched to a new solution in December that is 1/2 the volume and much less acidic. That has made it more bearable for most people.

    I'm hungry :(

Good luck to the ladies having surgery tomorrow. I have my pre-op consult with the PS tomorrow. The nearest one is 45 minutes away. I still have 2 weeks and am starting to get anxious. I was recently in Raleigh NC and I don't know how you southern gals put up with the heat and humidity. No wonder sweet tea is so popular!

Sugarcakes/Ispy/et. al.: my sympathies to all! The 'no coffee' was the worst for me, but 'nothing to drink after midnight's a misery in summer!

wishing the 5 surgery gals good luck for tomorrow!

Hope sailorgirl and sugarcakes made out ok today.

I had an MRI - good news is I already knew I had cancer, bad news is they found something in the other boob. So an MRI guided biopsy now this Wednesday. Just hope they figure it out without having to push my surgery date out any further. May be headed for that BMX after all - time will tell. That was my first instinct anyway. If there is cancer in both, I would imagine the docs would change their mind and be willing to remove both in one surgery...

proudauntie, that would be ironic, wouldn't it? after all that. ugh. well, here's hoping for good results. And yes, I'm pretty much ready. I have fine hair that tangles easily, so I'm going to my Supercuts girl tonight to have her french braid my hair into two braids to keep it off the nape of my neck and untangled. Then it is just change the sheets to my clean white ones (so I can ooze all over them and bleach them; yea, nice thought) and go to bed. I want to be in bed by 11 pm so I don't have to experience not eating or drinking until tomorrow morning haha. Two benedryl tonight for me I think. bleh.

ispy, IndyGal35, Free123, Queenmomcat & JCFree. . .Prayers and hugs for tomorrow.

Proudauntie I had two MRIs, one with guided needle biopsy. My BS needed to know whether to do SND on both sides. Keep in mind that MRIs can have false positives so try not to worry.

ScottieMom: Thank you, already got 'surgery nerves', but the salmon for dinner tonight should slide down easily.

Ispy: my sympathies--that's pretty much my plan too. When's your surgery? (hope you don't have to wait long tomorrow morning!)

Also asparagus for dinner: is it wrong of me to think it'll serve the nurses right if they make me pee in a cup AGAIN to prove I'm not pregnant?

Hi Ladies! I'm Waiting to go in for an MRI right now. I requested it to check on my healthy boob as I am now wondering if I should keep it.

Meeting my new surgeon on Thursday. I hope she is what I am looking for in a surgeon.

Good luck to all of you who are going in tomorrow for surgery and to those who have already gone in! So many of us listed now!

I am probably going to be pushed out until August....we'll see!

Hi everyone! I hope all continues to go well SugarCakes! I'm home and doing well. It was a long morning but the breast center at John C Lincoln in north Phoenix was absolutely fabulous! The PINK was everywhere and the nurses and techs are beautiful people. So thankful for all of them. The nuclear injections around my areola were the worst. I think they should start the happy juice before they do that. Four nodes (2 lit up and 2 were marked from biopsy) removed as well as some breast tissue. Will get path results by Thursday. Keeping ahead of any pain with hydrocodine. All my best to you sisters up tomorrow!! Praying for you all! And yes, Sugar, I'm still hungry and getting ready for some dinner - just had soup earlier. Thanks everyone!

IndyGal35: both surgeries took about 4.5 hours and was in recovery room for about 2 hours. My surgery was scheduled for 1 pm and I could enjoy a full dinner by 8 pm.

Some things that I can think of are: start miralax 2-3 days before surgery because that constipation is no joke. Also it took me and my husband a couple of trials to figure out what is the appropriate way to come to sitting position and get out of bed, by the time the PT stopped by the day after surgery we had learned the hard way. The trick is someone strong has to wrap their arms around your shoulder and push you up while you contract your ab muscle, no use of elbow and arm of course. My first nurse tried to help me sit by pulling my hand (in her defense I was in overflow unit not on surgical unit) however it is intuitive to those around you to help you sit by holding and pulling your arm and that's a no n

As I read your posts and having had a BMX back in Apriil, I will share with you how to get to a more upright position and also an easy way to get up and down. When leaning back on pillows (the best you can), have someone gently push behind the pillows to help you sit upright. To help you stand, sit down on the toilet and get up, have your helper put a bath towel around your waist to gently support you. You do not want to use your arms. I found it difficult to move or scoot on the bed. Using a big bathtowel, put it on the bed. Sit on the towel. Your helper pulls the towel, which moves you.
