jackbirdie: the quilt is awesome. How wonderful to have that! Very talented mom.
Littleblue: ringing in the ears and dizziness can be both low and high blood pressure. But I know my MO told me to call if I developed this symptom.
Slv58: have fun golfing.
Happy 4th All!!!

jack birdie, the quilt is great! Love it!
SLV, golf away!!!!
Littleblue, I would take it easy today! As far as arms, I first worked on range of motion. Once that was good, I used some bands and pulled back like starting a chain saw and also across my chest with my elbow bent 90 degrees. I also use weights. I started with 2 pound Dumbbells then went to 5, then 20, then 12, then 20. I don't have any specific routine. They are on the edge of my closet. Every time I walk by my closet I lift them in a different way...I probably should have a more specific routine, but this way, I lift daily, and use a variety of muscles. I just made sure to progress slowly. Sometimes I still use lighter weights... It depends howuch energy I have when I walk by
-
Thanks KBee, your always such a wonderful source of good advice and information......fore!
-
Once my incision healed, I pick up my dog, who weighs 15 pounds, so I'm not terribly consistent on the weight thing. Maybe I should be doing dog lifts on a regular schedule!
Seems like light weights wouldn't be an issue...about half of what you pick up around the house probably weighs between 2 and 5 pounds.
-
Littleblue: Ringing in the ears and wooziness can definitely be a blood pressure issue. But I get those symptoms a few days after my chemo...plus sweatiness with any activity. I have a BP machine and check it, but there is never a problem with my BP. It just seems to be a chemo effect. I have to sit down and have a cold drink.
Jackbirdie, love the quilt! Such a wonderful memory of your mom. My mom is a big time quilter too and has made me several wall hangings and a rag quilt. She has become addicted to her iPad lately though so hasn't been doing a whole lot of quilting!
Andrea

Thanks, you guys! Andrea, this is a usual post chemo thing for me as well, but I never really questioned it befor. Yup, sweating it out happens to me too. Good to know it's not just me!
Also, thanks for the weight lifting tips...I know my pack weighs at least 20 lbs, and I have been swinging it on and off so I guess I will just stop stressing the weights.
Jackbirdie, what a beautiful legacy your mother left you in those quilts!
-
Nice quilt!
I leave a 2- or 3-pound dumbbell on my desk at work, and by the sofa facing the TV at home. I do a few curls while my computer is booting up, or more than that while I'm watching television. I do range of motion/anti-lymphedema stretches on the floor by the TV and stereo. I've just started adding in more upper body exercises, because even though my surgeon allowed more activity, it hurt while the port was in. Have I mentioned recently how happy I am to have the port out? Give me a new incision and a right side covered with Sharpie marks and radiation stickers instead any day!
-
ugh...I hear you on the port ksusan..mine bugs me all the time. I'm afraid the Damn thing is gonna come unsewn and spray blood all over like a hose...
-
If it helps, everyone I've worked with says they don't dislodge easily once they're healed in place.

On another note, may I post my inappropriate photo?

Very funny KSusan! Like the new avatar too!
-
I look pretty much like Homer right now--bald, paunchy, and more or less breast-free. I'm down with that.
-
Oh my god, that made my day ksusan! In fact, I laughed so hard I snorted kombucha out my nose!
-
lol, I am sure some of those oncologists and surgeonsreally can party!
-
In fact i........laughed my tits off?!
-
Haha ksusan, too funny!
-
#26: I am grateful for too many books.
-
ksusan, You are all over these forums! I could not sleep so am up at 1:30 and am looking at other topics......and, there you are! I feel like I know so msny of you. I think there should be some kind of a national convention for women who have had Breast csncer. There could be speakers on nutrition, exercise!, what's available for us in terms of improving quality of life, help for those with issues taking estrogen inbitors.....all sorts of thimgs. Oh, and did I mention free massages and all kinds of make up companies with workshops snd free samples. I guess I am rambling, but just thinks this would be a great idea. We could all arrange a reunion at the convention. I bet you, and others on this thread would have good input to this idea. SpecialK, how about you? Just my crazy brainchild in the middle of the night
-
ksusan that is absolutely the greatest thing I've ever seen!! Made me laugh so hard! This weekend I have felt great- here's to hoping that continues. I don't want to jinx it. Tomorrow I go to the Look Good Feel Better program. Anyone else been? What can I expect? I hope everyone else has a good weekend and if feeling well
-
hahahahaha!! Ksusan..... Funny stuff right there... Lol
Just jumping in to say That I still do Crossfit... 55 to 85 lb cleans, etc.... I didn't have a MX but I've had zero problems with my port and lifting heavy!! I'm certainly not hitting personal records but I'm still holding my own.
-
leighrh, that's awesome! Did you do it all through chemo? Do you feel like your muscles recovered between sessions? Sorry to grill you, but I feel like there aren't a lot of young healthy women who are patients of my MO, so his advice on excercise might be a little on the conservative side. I guess it's too late for now, since my last dosing is in 2 weeks, but after that I want to hit the ground running with getting back in shape while I wait to get my port out! Thanks so much!
-
Deep thoughts on the proverbial chemo brain...could it be the massive doses of ativan that go with treatment? Cause dang if I didn't aquire a giant window screen on my way home from chemo on Thursday, and dang if I remember where I got it or why I wanted it! Sooo...free window screen in my garage here if anyone is in need...Also, it's contagious, because my Mom is finding random vegetables in her pockets, no clue how they got there.
-
LO! Funny pic!!!!! Can we all post a pic? Name with a face!?💖
-
yep littleblue....I've done it all through AC and now through 3 rounds of taxol. I make it 2 or 3 times a week. I'm def not doing anything for time and my running has severely taken a hit but I get through the wods. During AC I was really scaling the weight down. But last week I PR'd a 100lb front squat.... My MO encourages me to keep working out... He'd prefer I go less often... Or he's happy with 2 or so days a week... I push for more!! But he says it will def help when all this is over! Google crossfit Through cancer... That gal is amazing and I've talked to her over email a cpl times. She is the one when I was first diagnosed that told me no matter what my docs said I could Crossfit through this shit!!! I get discouraged because it's so frustrating to not be at the level I was before but I just keep reminding myself that when this is over I can worry about getting back there !
-
That's awesome leighrh! I'm totally gonna look it up. My MO is a runner, so he was totally on board with me doing that as much as I can, but it is so annoying to have to surf the side effects and watch all your muscle disapear. I super excited to hear you are doing so well with it! I'm gonna look it up and take info to my physical therapist on Tuesday! Thank you!!!
-
My MO is a runner too and he loves that I run, and encourages it. BS, who did my port, made sure it was very secure because of my job, so he put no restrictions on me.
Getting a cold... I do NOT need that... Hoping it does not go into a sinus infection or pneumonia. Thinking I will try to get antibiotics when I see MO tomorrow. I just do not want any delays!!
-
hey everyone...quick question for those that have had lumpectomy/sentinal node stuff done...
i have a meeting in the morning with my sureon and no idea what to ask....so for those that had gone through it already...any advise or questions you wished you had asked?
thanks
-m -
ankledolphin: I have had lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy. I also had complications with a seroma (fluid build up) Ask your surgeon what you can expect at the site of the lumpectomy. Any post op complications that you should be watching for. Ask if you will be having a drain to remove fluid. You should ask about physical therapy to prevent lymphedema. The pt takes measurements before surgery and then post surgery along with exercises to help regain movement in your arm. Also ask when you will have the results of the sentinel biopsy explained to you. Expect to be very drowsy, and not in any way able to comprehend post op directions so arrange to have help at home. Thinking of you. Good luck!
