Confused and Scared

Greetings Beauties!

This is my first post here. I hope I do it right! I was diagnosed in March. Had my surgery in April. I started radiation on June 10th. I had felt a lump, at my tumor bed since right after my lumpectomy. I asked my surgeon and she said it was normal. Something just didn't seem right to me so I asked my radiologist, social worker, surgeon, and another doctor and nurse. Everyone brushed me off. Finally I begged my surgeon to do an ultrasound on the area. They found a tiny 2mm lesion 2 cm from my original tumor. Now I am multifocal. My surgeon encouraged another lumpectomy because she said I was just too emotional of a person to have a mastectomy (I have not handled this diagnosis well). Then I asked her for an ultrasound on my left breast. All was clear. After that, which was 3 days later, my surgeon said they think I should do a mastectomy because I am such a worrier. She said everyone I have seen at the hospital says I am the most emotional patient they have ever seen (which made me feel awful). So within a matter of several days she completely changed what she thought my surgery should be based on my emotions. I am so confused and scared. I had an MRI yesterday. I decided to make an appointment with my second opinion doctor, Kristi Funk, see what she thinks. I am so scared and they pulled me out of radiation. I don't know if I trust my surgeon now. The results of the MRI are in but no one will get ahold of me. I am worried the MRI will show a worse diagnosis however my surgeon said I was still Stage 1. Do I trust her? She said there was nothing more and I ended up having more! I am rambling. My Dad is here with me but I can't talk to him about it so I decided to share here for some support. I would appreciate any feedback!! Thanks so much and love to all!!

    Jewel-

We want to welcome you to our community here at BCO. We're sorry for the circumstances that bring you here, but we're glad you've found us, and hope you find the support you need!

Having trust and confidence in your doctors and surgeons is key. And the decision as to what kind of surgery you have is entirely yours. You should certainly take the advice of your doctors when making the decision, but it is your choice. We would absolutely suggest you seek out a second opinion, because it doesn't seem like the relationship with this surgeon is a healthy one at this point. You can demand your results, and then have another doctor review them, if you feel more comfortable doing that.

We are so sorry for all of this, we know it's only making an already scary situation that much scarier! Please keep us posted on how things are going, we're thinking of you!

have you ask the doctor for a prescription to help with your aniexty? You are absolutely normal in what you are feeling and many, many of us had a prescription to help in the beginning. You probably aren't sleeping well either. Do get the second. opinion and take your time. A MX is not a surgery to take lightly, from either a physical or emotional aspect. Talk to as many people as you can. And don't beafraid to ask questions.

Thank you for replying Obxflygirl1....yes, I do have some Xanax which helps me sleep and if I need a bit for anxiety. Thank you also for acknowledging that what I am feeling is normal. I often feel abnormal with my doctors and even sometimes with friends and family. Folks just seem to want me to get well quick and not being so upset! I look forward to seeing Dr. Funk again...she is a real sweetheart. I feel nervous about time because I already had surgery and 7 days of radiation. I am concerned about stopping treatment. I see you had a mastectomy. So, did you have a really hard time with it? Bless you and thanks again. It took a lot for me to reach out here and I hope to become part of this loving community.

Not sure if this will help. I opted for Lumpectomy for my multi focal tumors.

Thank you for your replies...my MRI was clear...didn't even show the 2mm lesion. However my surgeon still wants to remove it to be 100% sure. It showed on the US. So confusing. Now I'm back to having her suggest another lumpectomy. Has anyone ever experienced anything like this? Thanks for the help!!! Love to all!

Hi movingsoccermom, How was your lumpectomy for multifocal? Are you happy with your decision and outcome? Would love to hear more about your experience. What were your tumor sizes? Thank you dear!
