Ankledolphin,
I absolutely relate to your desire to go through your public life without letting them see any of the emotions behind it. I also have a very public job, with a lot of collaborative contact with clients and consultants and contractors, and am the one that manages the team. I kept up a very positive, cheerful facade for the diagnosis phase, but I could not figure out how I was going to be able to put on that public face for six months. And I couldn't figure out how to track all the different projects through weekly chemo brain. So I opted for an extended medical leave.
I don't feel like a mess in my personal moments, and generally am a pretty happy person, but I'd have to be in the worst denial to be so positive about everything all the time. I am happy to be on leave so I can just be.
I respect your decision to do it a different way and acknowledge the toll that it takes on you.

yeah my PT said no excercise above the belly button except my lymph edema and stretching..so frustrating!
-
gkodad - how did you know something was seriously wrong--just a feeling or were there symptoms. Thank goodness you caught that sneaky bast***!!!!
-
a really healthy family break since chemo began to Mystic, CT. Sending this adorable beluga whale to cheer you all up. Right now, I feel incredibly grateful to live among some of the world's most wonderful creatures...wow! And my old as gold friend from college is driving down from Canada to be with me and the family.
-
littleBlue...mystic pizza exists.
-
I have 2, 3 and 5 pound weights. The dc said those are fine but nothing over that lol my arms are getting super flabby. I'm losing muscle mass fast also
-
Same range--up to 5#. I was allowed to start doing triceps extensions 2 weeks ago if I did them lying on the floor.
-
addie, I hear you. Flab city here
I am worried about annoying this stupid port by making my pecs flex though. Although to be honest, my cat weighs 12 lbs and I have been picking her up since day one so I dunno.
Ksusan, did you start triceps befor or after your port came out?
-
Littleblue, before. My surgeon said I could do any physical activity at my check-up a few weeks after my port went in, and my PT/LE said any stretches were fine, but she (PT/LE) didn't want me lifting or doing anything strenuous while she evaluated me fr LE over a couple of weeks. I'm still not to do heavy cardio or heavy weight [without building up, I think], but she's said other activities are now okay.

who is gene!!? Forgive me! I get confused!!😫chemo brain!!!
-
And my cats are 20#, and I did not pick them up for months!
-
Hey allibeths, are you going to be doing radiation?
Positive spirit, lovely pics! Thanks so much for sharing, and I'm so glad you are feeling a bit better. This is a tough time! Lots of love, sister!
-
littleblue - I know how you feel! This weekly chemo is for the freaking birds?!! When am I supposed to feel good??!! It's crazy making!
Everyone- and there are too many of you lovlies to mention each, thank you for the good thoughts!!
-
I think Gene may be a hoax. He posted on several sites (each time twice) and on other irrelevant sites. Both his posts have been removed from this board. I'm such a sucker....
-
#25: I am grateful to be out in the hot sun again.
-
Hi all!
gkodad: The tumour on my left side was actually mixed...features of both IDC and ILC. So you're not the only one...that's the side which has lymph node involvement.
It was my last day of chemo today!!!! My PICC is out! I am so excited! Feeling well aside from the usual facial flushing and insomnia from the dex.
Me with my mom today
Andrea

Wow! How great! I have one more left.....gonna make a sign!
-
yes, little blue I am doing radiation.
-
Sue58 - How did I know something was wrong? When I rolled over on that side at night, this weird thickness in my breast tissue would push against the inside of my arm. I was hoping it was fat necrosis from a car accident that severely bruised my breast and ribs. Fortunately, the radiologist took me seriously despite his believe it was just dense breast tissue, and pushed the insurance company for an MRI despite nothing of significance on the mammo and U/S. My uneducated medical theory is that the injury triggered something to start growing, but my MO says no....
Andrea C - Yahoo on last chemo! I can't wait to get to where you are!
Positive spirit - love the beluga baby! I'd love to see one close up.
I wondered about Gene...the maple syrup in the microwave seemed a little out there. Let's assume there was no malicious intent.
Hope everyone enjoys the holiday. Day 3 on my first Taxol and the aches and pains have set in. But my head is seriously better than on A/C
-
this is day 4 post taxol for me and I'm feeling pretty decent- besides the expander pain- tbats mostly on my left side because my ps put 50ccs more in that side. Taxol has been good to me. Usually just fatigued by the weekend. The first taxol I had caused me body aches by the weekend but I haven't had them since my first dose of taxol. My nails are actually starting to ache just a little and my lashes and brows are thinning even more. Today we're going to watch a parade (in the rain) and then watch fireworks over the lake. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.
-
CONGRATS ANDREA!
Gko, day three bone pain here too 😩
-
I'm behind a page, but thank you Kbee for reassuring me. I'm still extremely fatigued...just making my bed was a chore, but mentally I'm better and my tummy is settled.
As far as exercising, am I not supposed to use weights if i have a port?
Good for you Andrea!!!! God bless.
Happy 4th everyone!
-
I was told the port can develop a problem with weights and excessive arm exercise, and to limit any exercise that causes stress in that region. Of course, given the MX and lymph node removal that was already limited. Check with your doctor.
-
Good to know. I don't recall any advice on exercise. But, I wouldn't be surprised if I just can't remember.
-
Congratulations on finishing Andrea! Ring that bell!

Happy July 4th to all yay American friends! Have a fantastic weekend!
Andrea

My BS had no lifting restrictions on me with my port. In fact, he positioned it to try to be out of the way of my air pack, so I could still take fire calls. I lift weights almost every day
-
Ok, so I should be alright trying to play golf tomorrow? I never even thought to ask and it's the first time I'm playing in 2 years-I'm excited because it will be my son, stepson and hubby! We use to be a regular foursome when the boys were younger. I'm not going to push myself, but will put some effort into my swing. I'll be wearing my lymphedema sleeve
-
Happy 4th ya all!
dagnabbit!! You guys mean I have been letting my upper body go for no reason? Fraaaaaaak!
Kbeee, would you mind sharing your excercise routine with us, beyond running and walking? Clearly I have not been proactive enough in my questioning my MO about what I can do. Guess I am intimidated by my cyborg part. I have a PT appointment on tuesday, so I can grill her!
Anyone know if low blood pressure causes ringing in the ears? And woozyness? Planning to clean the basement today, but not if I'm gonna go nose first down the stairs!

Here is my mom's (RIP) interpretive 4th quilt. She was self-taught, and designed and made this while she was living with me the last few years. She was an amazing, talented woman, and just loved rotating holiday displays for the various holidays. How I miss her.
