Lashes and brows

I know we have a hair forum but I was thinking it would be a good idea to discuss tips for lashes and brows. When did yours go? When did they come back? How long did it take? What tips for making yourself look better do you use? Are you using false eyelashes? Fake brows? Brow pencils, stencils?
My bottom lashes are just about gone in week 4 of Taxol. My upper lashes and brows have thinned but are not gone yet.
-
Well my top lashes went after AC #4. There are a few up there but just enough to look kinda crazy if I put mascara on them. Ive been wearing fake ones that I got at Walgreens. Sometimes they are a pain to put on and sometimes they go on smoothly. I have heard that they do eyelashes at the place where I get my nails done and supposablely they last for 2 weeks. Thinking about getting those. My brows have really thinned but I have enough where I can just help them out with a brow pencil. I have heard that once they fall out they grow back fairly quickly.... not like the hair on your head... but I have also heard that you can lose them in cycles, you lose them, they come back, then you lose them again!
-
Lashes and brows -- ugh! My last chemo was December 3, 2014, and my lashes still have not recovered! I have the fakes, but I'm not very skillful at applying them. So, I go without most days. The brows -- they're back but a bit patchy. I still draw them in every morning.
-
I did Latisse to get my eyelashes to grow back quickly cuz it was driving me nuts not to have any. I just bought another bottle of Latisse yesterday at my PS office for my eye brows. I am over a year post chemo and they have gotten patchier and thinner over time, not better-so will thicken them with Latisse. The stuff is pricey but it works.
-
How long after FC do you have to wait to do Latisse? Does it work? How long does it take?
-
Vettegirl,
I'm 2 mo PFC and my brows are back, and dark! I'm a redhead so this is novel..anyway really want some lashes though, so I'm thinking of giving latisse a try. How long does it take before you see something?
-
Mine didn't start to go until several cycles after my hair... (2 weeks after first cycle for the hair). So it wasn't until about the end of 6 cycles that my brows got thin and finally fell out!
Luckily, I had scarves and hats that I could pull down, and my wig had bangs/fringe. And I used a brow pencil for a while.
But right after chemo my eyebrows and lashes started to slowing grow in! (I was worried that I'd have t figure out how to draw my eyebrows in without any guide at all--but that didn't happen... a few hairs stayed in until the new ones started growing in).
I've always had short, thin lashes, so I always wore eye-liner and almost didn't notice when they fell out. Only problem was when one would fall into my eye!
Latisse only works while you use it. You have to keep using it forever to keep those hairs growing... and it can darken your skin in that area, and darken you actual eyes! I used to use it regularly because it started out as a glaucoma treatment. It did grow out my lashes, but my lashes were still too thin to really make a difference without gobbing on tons of mascara and I hate using mascara... I didn't miss using the stuff after they switched me to another eye-drop!
I still have some bottles around, but I know that everything will just fall out and stop growing again if I run out, so I don't even bother. I'll just stick to eye-liner, as it has more effect.
I'm doing a year of Herceptin. Some people say that can slow down hair growth. Maybe. Not sure how fast everything should be growing!
-
I did not lose my eyebrows or lashes totally. They got thin, so I just used a brow pencil to fill brows and just lined my eyes with eyeliner, no mascara or fake lashes. That worked for me.
-
Can you use Latisse while on chemo?
-
My eyebrows have always been thin...I've used an eyebrow pencil every day for years, so I really wasn't worried about losing my eyebrows. But now that they are barely there it seems so much harder to use the pencil. It's like the color wont stick....I am using a darker color pencil and that helps. My eyelashes managed to hold on through chemo, but now that I've been done for a month the top lashes are thinning and I have only 4 or 5 lower ones! I wish I could use the false eyelashes, but when I have tried in the past (way before chemo) I could never get them on correctly. Maybe I should Google a tutorial! But I'm afraid when I remove them the glue would pull out the remaining lashes I do have! I'm going to have to try the Latisse. I had heard about the darkening of the eyes; is this permanent?
-
One month after last infusion, my eyebrows are still shedding. I had caterpillars before chemo, so I have enough left that if I fill them in people don't really notice. Lashes are still hanging on, but I think I have lost some of the longer ones because now they look short and stubby. Thank goodness for eye liner and brow pencil, although I suck at the brow pencil. Most days I end up looking perpetually surprised.
Head hair is growing back in and leg hairs are back, and chin hairs too. Also have some random black hairs growing on my cheeks, what the heck is that about?
Pubic hair also coming back. No armpit hair yet, that can stay gone as far as I am concerned.
I wash and scrub my head everyday as if I had hair, and also rub some coconut oil on there for good measure.
I have been reluctant to try Latisse because I definitely don't want brown circles around my eyes, not sure if it is true or not that it can cause browning around eyes. Taking biotin supplements just in case they work

I'm almost five weeks PFC and my brows have fallen out more in the past week than ever before. I'm pretty resigned to losing them completely here in the next week or so. My lashes seem to be hanging on, though.
-
I just had Taxol #5 this past week, after 4 rounds of AC. My last 2 brow hairs fell out this weekend. Boo. Last time after TC, only about half of my brow hairs grew back. I am hoping at least enough grow back for me to fill in with a pencil because right now it takes at least 3 tries for me to draw happy brows and not angry brows. I am terrible at drawing!
-
KBee lol, I so suck at it. I am there with you, eyebrows are not my thing! But you know, I've been noticing a lot of women have little or no eyebrows, so maybe we are just noticing ours more.
I went to the brow bar at Ulta once, maybe I will go back again now that I have very little brows. Oh, and the ones growing back in are blonde - what the heck is that about?
-
My eyebrows and eyelashes thinned towards the end of chemo. I lost most of my bottom lashes. I'm almost 10 months pfc. The lashes are slowly returning and the brows have filled in some, but the growth has been nothing compared to the growth of my leg hair! Dang, if my eyelashes could only be as full and long as the hair on my legs that would be great, lol!
-
I hear you Debiann. The tops of my feet are growing enough hair to be considered a mustache. What's that about
-
Ladies - I've lost maybe 1/2 of them after AC and 2 rounds of taxol - brow powder is working well for me, I think it's more forgiving than harsh lines of a pencil?
-
Italy chick, no mustache on my feet, but just a little goatee on my big toes, lol. Amazing the places hair wants to grow.
Brow powder? I never heard of that, but it sounds good. I'm not too good with the pencil, so I'll have to give this a try.

Hello. I wanted to recommend a web site....billiondollarbrows.com. I used their universal brow pencil and the "brow buddy" when my eyebrows fell out. I didn't believe that the pencil was universal, but it was.....and it stayed on all day, The brow buddy helps you know where to start/end.....easy peasy. Sadly, 2 years PFC, my eyebrows are still thin and I still use this product. Love it! I was never able to figure out how to handle losing my eyelashes. Fortunately, I wear glasses and they didn't all fall out at once, so I was able to disguise somewhat.

My eyebrows didn't really go until about Taxol #4. I went to Ulta and got Anastasia Brow Pomade. The woman there showed me how to apply it, and blend it with the spooley brush. I have a few stray hairs so it's a bit easier to follow the line. The Pomade comes in several colors, so you can choose to match your former brows, or go with a shade that looks best now.

I used Lumigan (Latisse) for glaucoma for years (one drop in each eye at night). I was told it could darken the skin around my eyes and could actually darken your eye-color and your whites. It could be permanent. I have really dark brown eyes and not a lot of white showing (Asian!), and I normally wear brown eyeshadow on my lids--and to stave off glaucoma, I thought the risk was reasonable. If I had light-colored eyes and fair skin, I'd have worried, but, again, better than glaucoma. My sister tried Latisse for a while. I personally thought she was crazy to do something like that just for thicker lashes! And she's got the same dark eyes that I do, so no big deal there.
I've never had long, thick lashes, so I guess I've never missed them that much! The Lumigan made the peach-fuzz around my eyes grow longer and darker, as well as my eyelashes. I actually started plucking facial hair that I'd never had a problem with before. I did get some darkening around my eyes. It never got too dark, though. Because Lumigan started to be worth more as a lash-growing drug, I actually got switched OFF it! Now I'm on something that doesn't grow lashes, for my glaucoma! Geesh! Weird how pharmaceuticals work! But I'm glad I don't have to worry about having my lids darken more! Or the whites of my eyes, or my irises getting even darker than they are...
My puny, thin lashes and eyebrows are growing back slowly. They are about a 1/6" maybe longer, two months out from TCHP.
I'm lucky that my last eyebrow hairs fell out after the other hairs started to grow back in, so I always had a bit of a guide to use for the eyebrow pencil! Whew! Yeah--it's NOT easy drawing in brows (and I'm an artist). I'm also lucky that I wear my hair with bangs covering some of that...
Chemo really helped get rid of my age spots! I think it got rid of a lot of the Latisse darkening, too (although it's still faintly there). I still have little moles... weird how that worked! I have to say that my skin is like baby-smooth! Although, it's also getting a bit crepe-y since I lost weight (and sub-cutaneous fat), and there's a bit of sagging. Ah, well! Can't really win! But I had some serious sun-damage and brown spots from all those years before sun-block, and they are mostly gone, and I'm happy about that.
