Comfort dogs

Ducky, I agree. If it can work for kids I don't know why it shouldn't work for dogs. With all the suffering Stella is having to go through it's worth a try to ask about it.

Spookiesmom, I used to take Benedryl every night to help me fall asleep. Eventually it stopped working for me, and now my Dr. prescribed a muscle relaxer. It's like knocking me upside the head with a brick. I sleep so much better now.

Interesting reading Bren. I hope Ducky passes the info along to her daughter. It sounds so promising.

Dozer is so cute!  How old is your granddaughter?  I have two grandsons in San Diego ages 7 and 11.

Slow ... I am so freakin' jealous.  Yes, I try to see my grandsons twice a year, but sometimes I can only make it out in April to babysit them while they are on spring break.  This time of year with the all the ticks and the humidity ramping up really makes me miss San Diego.  My family lives about 10 minutes from the beach in La Mesa near San Diego State U.  Are you anywhere near Laguna Beach?  Are you on the coast or further inland?  I lived in Temecula for a year before I left California 12 years ago.

I grew up in San Diego ... sure is different living in the southeast now.

Tank is doing well.  He's still being a little picky about eating, so it's back to putting browned hamburger back on his breakfast and dinner.  He is really scared of the thunderstorms we get here.

Gma .. is Dozer a boxer or a mix?  Sure is a cute dog.  I'm getting used to only having one dog now.  If I want a blue heeler puppy I could get my pick of the litter late this fall.  Just not sure I want another dog.  Tank would probably love it.

Bren, yes, he is a Boxer mix - a lady with ALS rescued him - but she couldn't handle 2 dogs. She has a dog that assists her also. She took him from a "friend" that had him chained and starving. She put a good 10 lbs on him before she offered him to us. Never having a big dog, I have had my trials with him.

Slow - Dozer is doing better with greeting people at the door. We were kind of concerned when we brought my 14 year old granddaughter home. But we had an idea and it worked. GD picked out a new toy for him. DH, GD and I all came through the door together and he made 1 bark sniffed her and took the toy. Been best buddies all week. Then, later on this week, the tree trimmers came to the door and Dozer slipped by me BUT he greeted him with a sniff and came back in - 1 bark and sniff and he was fine. As long as you don't grab at his collar, he seems to be fine, IF he isn't already agitated - I think.

Looking for advice and tips on how to walk the dog in the first couple weeks after BMx.

I cannot deny her, but I'm scared about her pulling on the leash. She's just a little 2 yr old, 18lb pug and I usually take her out for 1 to 2 hours, twice a day. It's not continuous walking, she just likes being out there for a nice long while and resists heading in the direction of home!

My husband works 12 hour shifts, starting at 6 or 7 in morning to 6 or 7 in the evening. Or vice versa for graveyard shift. So, it's not an option for me to wait until he gets home. And if I don't get out with her at least once, she gets feisty and jumps all over me.

Thanks Glennie, that's a great solution! Rarely will she go for a walk alone with my husband if I'm at home, so this really is an ideal option.

Aw, she looks like she just came back from a walk in that picture! I can't quite tell, but she looks like a Staffy or a Pitt Bull. 68 lbs is a lot of dog! Does she sleep in your bed?

I had my young dog DNA tested, and they told us his major breeds are Pug and Russell Terrier. His distant breeds are Rottweiler, Australian Shepherd and Alaskan Malamute. That poor boy is all mixed up.

Edited to add: You may want to check if there are any doggy walking businesses around you. That's starting to be a big thing now for people who work all day and can't take their dogs out.

Yes! We love our dog park, go almost every night. Kris whines to go! No spoiled poodle in my house!

Slow. My Aussie had spring allergies to pollen. He was 62#. He got 100 mg Benadryl, never slowed him down a bit. Not sleepy, drunk, nothing.

Vulfie matured about 18 months old. Before then, he was THE WORST puppy I ever had. He lived to be 14 1/2. My heart dog.
