I saw my MO yesterday. I am one year out and just did a mammo and ultrasound ( all clear). I asked my MO how often I will have a mammo. She said once a year. I told her I had faithfully done my mammos yearly and between one year and the next I ended up with a 2.8cm tumor. I really don't have a lot of faith in mammos anymore. I asked her if we could do an ultrasound every 6 months too. She said she had no problem with that but most likely insurance wouldn't pay for it unless there is a reason. Is this the norm after a BC diagnosis? Seems like for the first few years one should be checked more often. I will see either my MO or RO every 3 months. Bleh I am just uncomfortable about just being tested yearly especially since I ended up with a 2.8cm tumor.

Gee, Nancy, I'm not so sure how often I will get mammos. My MO is a heavy scanner, though. She has said that I should get annual MRIs! (I've already had two MRIs and two PET scans.) I'm not sure why; maybe it's because I was stage IIIa (large tumor + one compromised node), Grade 3 and HER2+.

thanks Elaine. I still have not had an MRI. My MO said my tissue isn't that dense. She also said with my tissue it will be easier to find a lump. Humph. Well I see her again in December and I'll bring up again.

I was at stage II and it was a year on March 31 that I am officially cancer free. My oncologist has her patients getting mammograms every 6 months for two years and then back to a yearly one. So I have had 2 mammograms since I finished treatments.
