How do you live in purgatory?

Options

I feel like I am in purgatory? Every day is the same, monotonous, unexciting day. I no longer work and the most excitement I have is getting my TE filled. What do you do to give your self something to live for? I don't like leaving the house because I am too self conscious. Every one I know is living their lives and I have to be here for at least until the end of the year, doing cancer. I may just go crazy....

Oh sweetie, thank you for sharing your feelings so honestly! I don't really have a solution for you, because I don't know your situqtion, but I sometimes have those feelings as well. Would you like to work or volunteer? I am trying so hard to turn this whole cancer trip into something positive...mentoring other women who are behind me in the process, practicing gratitude for all that has been given to me...it's hard, but that's why it's practice! Do you like animals? Have any pets? Do you have a family? I'm going through chemo after having a bmx and it is hard to go out, but I work full time so I have to. I'm bald and boobless and everyone at work knows it, but no one cares. With a wig or a scarf, no one notices. I bet if you went out, no one would notice your differences either! Please keep posting...we are here for ya!

I don't know your situation, but maybe can offer a few suggestion. My mom did volunteer work at the Cancer thrift store a few days a week. Do you have any hobbies? Just go for a short walk, let the sun hit your face a few minutes. You can always see a movie, plan day trips so it will be less crowded if you are self conscious. I agree with littleblueflowers, she has some great suggestions.

My way of coping was called "social withdrawal" I didn't want to be around anyone other than my immediate family. I don't think its a good coping method because it is isolating. I started crafts that I always wanted to do but never had the time for. I made fancy crocheted scarves, beaded flip flops, I refinished a cabinet...all things that absorbed my mind, were useful and gave me something to show for my efforts. I also have 2 dogs who really enjoyed me being home. There is something gratifying about the love and devotion from a pet who loves you. These are just my personal suggestions...you need to find something that makes you feel unlike a hamster on a wheel and know that there are days that everyone struggles with that feeling... Sending you a hug.

I told my professor at school that I'll help out with some analysis work done on the computer once I start on chemo. (Chemo is going to take months!) Maybe you can do some projects involving the use of computer?
