Nipple Dermatitis or Paget's?

34 in Florida, no history BC in family and mom has 5 sisters wow. Almost a month ago I noticed my left nipple was little red, inflamed and tip was almost raw. Didn't hurt or itch and no oozing. I used some coconut oil and went to obgyn he gave my nystatin. Used for a week then saw my breast specialist (I had a benign fibroid in other breast so I am established patient) he gave me fast once over and said here's a new cream. I was upset at his two minute look, I really think he thought I was being ridiculous but the change in color is pretty obvious. So I went to my dermatologist. He agreed it was red and by this time, 1 week ago my areola was now a bit red. He said keep using the cream. I went back today because I don't see any change, I am allergic to many steroids and think cream might be making worse. So he gave me a natural ointment and in two weeks will do biopsy if I want. He thinks dermatitis says he see a lot and mine is not horrible. I am just an anxious person and want it better NOW, not this cream and that cream. Back up to a month ago. I was at a wedding outside 90 degrees in silk dress no bra and wonder if I just irritated the nipple then the cream is just maybe too harsh. I am allergic to singular, Bactrian and prednisone. I recently had a clear mammogram and breast MRI just last week as a follow up to my benign fibroid. So, that is all good news.

Just looking for comments or suggestions :) Anyone with Paget's similar? Or anyone that had redness and used something that finally worked?

    Mine came and went. It didn't matter whether I put cream on it or not. Rash would show up,, stay 3-4 days and disappear. then it would come back. When it broke open and bled, I went to the doctor. Nothing showed up on Mammogram, ultrasound or MRI. Only the biopsy showed that it was Paget's.

    I just had a wedge biopsy today checking for Pagets. Just a sore red spot. The itching wouldcome and go. I waited a long time to get the biopsy. To ease your mind, I would call the dr back and ask if you could have the biopsy sooner. You will drive yourself nuts worrying about it. I sure did!

    I just want to let you know that the area around my nipple was dark pink and when they biopsied it, it was paget's. I did not have any itching or flaking in that area. I would advice you have them biopsy it to put your mind at ease.

    Thanks everyone. I am going back Friday morning to hopefully have the biopsy done. I have called every day to see if earlier appt, but he's booked. The redness around the areola went away, it was definitely the cream making it worse. So for past 10 days I have gone no creams but the very tip of my nipple still looks very different from the other. So, glad I am having done. My husband's 20 year reunion is next weekend, hoping I have good news before then. Every time we have a trip or something planned, I get hit with something the day before :/ Every. Single. Time. New2bC: just curious did you have any underlying tumors?

    Oh just called and got a 9:15 tomorrow at their other office across the bridge! One day sooner I will take it :)

    Yes, I also had 3 small tumors in the same breast besides pagets.

    New2bc: did the MRI pick up the small tumors? I have now had this for little over month and no additional changes. Now today the areola is dry and flaky- great. The other side is not.

    I had calcifications in a circular pattern in the mammogram. The MRI picked up the larger tumor. The other two smaller tumors were discovered when the pathology was done after mastectomy.

    I just had the biopsy done, actually he did two.  He thinks its a glandular tissue infection.  My mammary glands are definitely extremely prominent on that nipple.

    Originally he was just going to biopsy the gland area on the areola but my original concern was the tip of the nipple, so to appease me -he did both.  Little sore now :/ He also gave me an antibiotic and new cream.  Results in a week although my sister in law works at the office so hoping I can maybe hear sooner.  He could tell I was concerned/nervous and tried to ease me by saying he is fairly certain now by looking at the pattern its a glandular tissue issue.  He says the glands look inflamed and red.
    so we will see. More waiting but at least its done.

    I am glad the biopsy is done and it looks like it is glandular issue and not pagets. You can relax a little bit now. Keep us posted with the results.

    So glad to have found this site and discussion board! Wishing all the best to each of you.

    I have been dealing with a very itchy and sore nipple off and on for several months and haven't really given it much thought. I'm 48 and so many hormonal changes occur at this age I blamed that. This past round was 2 weeks of sore and itchy so I made a doctor appointment to find out how to relieve it. I ended up with a small amount of bleeding (drops only) and a small scab which came off just before my appointment. I have no lumps, no scaling or any of that. I have had sticky straw colored spots inside my bra at times which I thought weird but has been at random times and never days in a row so I dismissed it. Doctor noticed a small dimple on the nipple and consulted with another doctor. I'm off to have diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound in 2 weeks to rule out bc and/or Paget's. If both negative then a biopsy. I'm kind of concerned why in that order if they want a biopsy in the end. Do they actually suspect cancer and want to confirm vs rule out? I'm probably over thinking it :)

    This is taking me by surprise as I was just looking for hormonal balance! And now of course I am looking at "the girls" with new suspicion and that breast does look a bit lopsided on one side of the nipple when I'm laying down.

    I'm just posting here as an outlet. I'm a little scared but also believe that worst case is still a positive outcome for me as it seems early if it is in fact Paget's. Hubby doesn't seem to want to discuss it unless we have results. Sounds rude of him but I think is denial as both his parents died young from other cancers.

    Thank you. I got a call today that they can get me in tomorrow for mammogram and ultrasound. I should know something before my original appointment was scheduled for. Still freaking out but moving forward.

    no significant changes in mammogram and no areas of concern on ultrasound. Recommended follow up biopsy with GP or breast program at cancer center to rule out PD for sure. Feeling relieved but not celebrating yet. :)

    no biopsy at this time. Decided watchful waiting until something more definitive shows clinically. I had no symptoms when I was there and she believes probably papilloma but wants to see how it presents. I will call her when symptoms return so she can examine me then and go from there. Whatever it is seems early stages so I'm okay with this plan but will be persistent until I know something for certain.

    Dear ladies in the United States,

    I am writing from France where I was diagnosed a Paget on my left breast by biopsy last May. I was operated on 2 July, I had the nipple and whole areola zone removed (2.5 in depth and x 10 cm large) as well as two sentinel nodes. The Paget was confirmed but without DCIS and the nodes are negative.

    Mamograph, scan and MRI were negative.

    The oncologist and surgeon advise radio therapy of the whole left breast.

    A Paget without underlying tumor is apparently 5 % of the diagnosed Pagets. I am desperately looking for statistics on the web about the recurrence of such a strange cancer. Could anyone help with this ? I am wondering how a recurrence of cancer will be diagnosed later since I do not have the areola anymore and no more sentinels nodes as a test either. I also wish there were statistics about the occurrences of having the same cancer in my right breast.

    We know this isn't exactly what you are looking for, but here is a bit of information about Pagets. Additional treatment for Pagets. Have you looked at the National Cancer Institute website yet?

    Thank you. Yes I searched the National Cancer Institute website but I cannot find statistics about women who had a Paget without underlying DCIS and recurrence in the breast or elsewhere actually. I am thinking of calling them directly. This is quite important to me because I do not want to damage my breast now with radio therapy in case I do develop another cancer in the breast later and absolutely need to do radiotherapy.

    I also realize I did not post my request in the right thread ! I will re-write in one of the active topics about Paget.

    That could be eczema. I have eczema since a few years ago and for me it has been really difficult to accept it. Finding a treatment that actually worked for my type of skin and eczema was a whole journey! Finally, I discovered foderma and the results have been amazing!
