IDC can't have radiation but will have lumpectomy and chemo.

Hi everyone,

This is cancer #3. I was just diagnosed. This is my problem. I have 2 small tumors. I can't have radiation because I have already had it 15 and 19 years ago. They want to do a mastectomy but I don't want one. I want lumpectomy and chemo. I am 73 years old. If I was young I could understand it. I told them if it were to come back the last time was 15 years ago. I would be 88 and who cares. I did say if it came back I would have the mastectomy. Has anyone had anything close to this? Thanks

    I'm sorry you were faced with this decision. You have the right to have whatever you decide done but I would ask them to explain in detail why it isn't a good idea or why "they" want to do a mastectomy. I agree that less is better but I don't have all of the information. I hope you find a resolution and I am sorry you are having to deal with cancer a third time....not fair. Take care.
