It doesnt seem fair, today is my wedding anniversary of all day to get the bad news.

My dr was out all day so I called the radiologist (she told me to if my dr was out) and she told me I have DCIS. My dr will be calling me tomorrow with the next steps. I guess that is to get a surgeon.

I don't have the grade or type yet. I forgot to ask the radiologist since my world just stopped after she said "we found cancer cells". I did ask if it was invasive and she said no it was DCIS.

How do you decide between lumpectomy or mastectomy? My spot is very small so lumpectomy would make sense but I'm scared of radiation. And I don't want to take tamoxifen. I had my ovaries out two years ago and am on an estrogen patch. I'm guessing I'll have to give that up. That won't be pleasant. Do I even need to go on anti hormone medication if I don't have ovaries?

So much to process. :(

Most likely you will need the AIs. Estrogen is made by your adrenal glands too. Depends on your type of cancer if will be needed. Rads get tireing. You have to go every day, but is maybe the easiest part of the whole treatment. The beam is pin point focused, takes longer to change clothes than on the table.

Take a deep breath, you can do it!!!!

Thanks for the reply! I see you are in Florida. We are in the process of moving to Florida this summer. This will certainly make that more stressful.

So sorry this came on anniversary but you will have this! IT's less overwhelming once you have a plan in place.

Sorry to hear your news. I have 7 radiation treatments left, I will have had 35 total. I can tell you for myself it has been a breeze!! The biggest annoyance was just going every day. I only have minimal redness, and nothing that I can even complain about. The radiation is so personaly made up for your specific cancer, it's all pinpointed to an exact area! It has come a long way from days gone by. I also have been on tamoxifen for over a month now and I can't complain about that either. I wish you all the best and soon this will be behind us all!!!

I got the news on my birthday (in march this year). Didn't seem fair then - but now i am grateful for an early diagnosis! Done with four cycles of chemo, started on tamoxifen and awaiting the rads.

    Hi,

I just got my news this week, too. My wedding anniversary was yesterday, and my birthday is tomorrow! I am really trying not to feel sorry for myself and look at it like a gift. Getting the news is better than NOT getting it. I have ILC and it looks like next Friday I'll have a mastectomy.

We're not alone. Take care of yourself,

    Kathleen
