Confused on hormone receptor status

I received the "amended" pathology report today, and it states the following:

    ER - 100% 3+ nuclear staining (POSITIVE)

    PR - 100% 3+ nuclear staining (POSITIVE)

    HER2/neu 1+ membranous pattern (NEGATIVE)

I understand that the 100% means all the cells they tested were ER and PR receptive - but what is the 3+ staining?    Is that the second part of the Allred Score I've read about?  If so, does that give me an Allred score of 8?

Thank you in advance for your help, everyone!!

When testing is done to determine hormonal receptor status they use a staining technique that results in both a receptor percentage and a staining intensity.  Staining intensity indicates how well the receptors show up - so your ER and PR testing showed strong intensity, your Her2, less intensity.  Yes, this relates to the second part of the Allred score.  Linked below is a good explanation of how Allred scoring works.

SpecialK - thank you so much! That was the same site I found which clarified it for me! I appreciate your clarifying what the terms mean, and for verifying my thought process! Very helpful. Much appreciated.
