    JO-5,

I have mild truncal LE and had breast reconstruction 2 years ago. My LE flared a little and it took about 6 months to get it back down. Recently I had trigger thumb release surgery on my LE side. The only problem is a little swelling in my thumb during the healing process. Some I expect is normal for this type of surgery.

If might be helpful to take antibiotics with and after the surgery. In the breast reconstruction my truncal flared with minor infection around my stitches after the first course of antibiotics ended.

I think the question is whether or not they are removing lymph nodes also and how that might effect lymph movement.

I have had twelve breast related surgeries since developing LE.  I have bi-lat arm LE, with the right side (cancer side) worse than the left.  A few of these twelve surgeries have been bi-lat, and the rest have been on the least involved side.  My LE has flared briefly after some, but not all, of these surgeries.  The flares have not been limited to the bi-lat surgeries, I have had them on the more involved arm even when the surgeries have been on the less involved side.  My LE has not worsened on a permanent basis, and the flares have been fairly brief.  I would encourage you to see your LE therapist for any advice prior to surgery and in the weeks after surgery to help deal with any issues, and for a status check.  Good luck!
