Alibeths, I noticed that right after chemo my mouth/tongue sores would go away. This time, I started the steroids the day before chemo, and they were already gone by yesterday morning, and completely gone when I finished chemo. I can only attribute that to the steroids that I took. They are antiinflamatory, so it seems logical.

I finished my last dose dense AC last week and am supposed to start weekly Taxols next Wed. I see that some people are on dose dense Taxol. How is that going? Does anyone still do the old protocol of every three weeks? Since I am doing the cold caps I would love to have less visits. I saw a PA today and she said she had never heard of anyone getting dose dense Taxol. I detest this PA and she made it seem like I was crazy to think others do something other than the 12 visits.
I really would much rather not have to go every single week this summer. With the cold caps I need to stay and extra 4 hours after the chemo so it is a long day.
-
good luck to chemosabes heading to the bar today!
-
Melissa, I know Jen and I are doing dose dense Taxol. I had two consultations with MO - the Boston one said 4 dose dense. When I went to the satellite MO, she said that they do ~95% of the patients with 12 weekly Taxol because it's easier on the system, and makes no difference in the outcomes. I opted for what Boston recommended, and I prefer to be done a month sooner as well as not have to go every week. I have a 2 week vacation scheduled, so that would mean having to spend 2-3 days (with travel) getting back to have treatments.
I think Jen's up for 2nd Taxol this Thursday.
I will say, it was a long day - 7 hours, but I did have a complication with my port that might have shaved off ~30-45 minutes.

Taxol 4 of 12 today. There is a man here getting his 50th chemo today... Been doing this 2.5 years. And there's a mom here with her 3 week old baby. Mom is getting chemo. Suddenly my 16 chemos does not seem too bad....
-
Wow. Kbeee. That just takes my breath away when I see or hear of one who has been doing this for years. And moms with babies and young children. You and many in our group included. It really puts it all in perspective. My best to you today and all our chemo sabes in the chair today.
-
Kbeee: WOW 50th chemo and a mom with a newborn breaks my heart. I don't think anyone can possibly understand the emotions and strength needed with a cancer diagnosis unless you have had the diagnosis and have undergone the treatment. And I've only had 3 going into 4 totally puts things into perspective.
Well I'm officially going on disability leave starting next week. Made the decision with my Dr. as my current position is too stressful and it is also a non supportive work environment. With all the symptoms it is just too much and I'm feeling stressed along with the symptoms. It is time to take care of me and start goals and dreams for the future. Having some anxiety of the unknown with my job and very doubtful that it will be kept open and I may possibly not be well enough again to handle a full time position that is so diverse but that's me future tripping. I had really hoped that this was the part of my life that was stable, bummer, LOL. Now why would I think that! But I also recognize that EVERYTHING happens for a reason and I'm being led into a new direction and focus that will be revealed when the time is right.
Hoping a good week for all...Live Fully!
-
well had my first taxol treatment and didn't have any reactions- thank god. My nurses said I handled it like a champ. I'm so proud of my body for taking it and not having any reactions. I hope the next 11 are just as easy. Now let's see what se I suffer.
Gingeel how did you do? And how did you other ladies feel after your taxol? And when did se kick in?
-
I was a little tired from Benedryl then wired from Taxol on day1... day 2: nothing at all; would not even know I was on chemo (did get a little rash) ...days 3 and 4: a little bit of bone and muscle pain...days 5-7: nothing of significance. I am so glad that it went well for you!
RPayton: Glad you get some time off of work. It's time to focus on YOU.
-
Rpayton: good for you, this is no time to be working full time, particularly in a stressful job. I have been on sick leave since late Feb. and have recently been approved for LTD, which should kick in late July, about the time my sick bank runs out. I have no idea how some of you are still working, plus looking after families...I have an enormous amount of respect and admiration for you! All I have to look after is myself. And my hubby does a good job of that too...
Hope this week treats you all well. I am feeling okay 5 days post chemo, just weak and sweaty if I do too much! And still tired.
Thank goodness my housekeeper is here today

Thanks, Andrea. I've always worked full time since I was 16. I guess just a crazy Midwest work ethic, or just crazy?! LOL This will take some getting used to but at approaching age 50 I think I'm ready to balance living, loving and laughing a different way than I have in the past. Time for me right now. -
Hey Mell, I am doing Dose Dense, although my MO said if I couldn't handle it, I could always switch to weekly. Well, knock on wood, its been so much easier than AC! I am working full time, except for treatment days, and maybe a few hours here and there. I get dosed on Friday, so I sleep all day that day, and wake up Saturday not feeling too bad. I usually go get Nuelasta (yep, still doing that) on Saturday morning, then wander through the farmers market. I generally feel kind of steroid buzzy and weak, but not too bad. Afternoon, I sleep. Sunday, much the same, but bone and muscle pain kick in hard. Monday, full day of work, lots of mucous in nose, sore throught that lasts through the next 8 days or so. Tuesday I generally have the steroid crash and feel the worst...weepy and achy and fluish. After that its a slow improvement every day. My energy the second week has been good...nasal symptoms still hang on, but i have been hiking and running every day. Today, I actually hiked all day for work, from 0900-1500. So its totally doable, and much easier than AC!
-
Taxol #1 went really well..no reactions at all! I got really sleepy from the Benedryl....I would have slept through most of my treatment, but an older gentleman next to me wanted to talk all about his pets and favorite TV shows.
Went out to lunch afterwards and managed to keep stay awake long enough to eat. lol Napped when I got home...am still a little tired, but basically feel good! LOTS easier than AC so far! I have my 2nd heart Echo tomorrow, so they decided not to start Herceptin until after those results are back.Addie, glad you did well too! What a relief, huh? Hope that Princess and gingeel did well too!
kbee, you're almost half way there!! How's the eating going since your taste is gone?
Rpayton, Ditto to the other comments about taking time off....after all you've been through at work, being away from that stressful environment will be so much better for you!
Its heartbreaking to think of a mom with a newborn going through this! My heart goes out to all of you ladies with young kids.....I cant imagine. You're made of strong stuff!!
-
glad everyone is doing well and littleblueflowers the neulasta was horrible to me. I'm glad to be done with that. But the ac usually caused my body to hurt also and then the neulasta didn't help matters.
-
Oh! Andrea, I am so jealous that you have a housekeeper!
How nice!!!
:) -
Has anyone had an issue with low platelet count? When I got my labs today, mine was low...it was 115 (normal 150-450). Wonder how low before no treatment?
-
yeah a housekeeper would be nice. Teaching my kids to pick up after themselves is next to impossible. Depending on how taxol treats me I may look around for one.
-
GingerChi - Did you get Herceptin and Perjeta also?
Good luck to all the ladies that went today!!
-
Addie, I hear you. I honestly don't know if it was the neulasta or the chemo for ac or taxol, because my body starts hurting pretty much as soon as I come out of the infusion fog.
I actually did get someone to come clean every two weeks..and I don't even have kids! It's worth every penny right now! Both of us working full time except for my sick days...I couldn't handle it! And it keeps my poor mom from feeling like she has to clean when she comes to take me to poisoning.
I am greatful that even though my body messed up and got cancer, now it is doing everything it can to get better! I am greatful for treatments that let me be a survivor now rather than a sick person. I am greatful that I was strong enough to hike for work all day today! Slowly though!
-
Princess, Didn't get to start Herceptin today. I have to get another heart Echo tomorrow. I haven't had one since I finished AC, so they wanted to be sure there was no damage before they start Herceptin. Wont be getting Perjeta since my insurance wouldn't approve it due to no node involvement. My MO appealed it twice, but no go!
Did you get both??
-
Crap! Ok this is urgent! I was sitting here feeling up my armpits, aND I just found a tiny lump on my cancer side! Could cancer be back on taxol? Freaking out now!
-
gingerchi I thought that you could get perjeta if your tumor was larger than 2cm? I dont really know how my oncologist got it approved but I had no node involvment and my tumor was 1.5cm and I am recieving perjeta although the MRI did show my tumor at 2cm but that was a week after my biopsy so my dr said it was very swollen and wasn't going to move me up
-
littleblueflowers I don't have alot of experience with recurrences but from reading the boards I think it's very unlikely for cancer to show up while on chemo
-
Had Taxol #1 today. The Benedryl hit me hard and made me sooo drugged and sleepy, but luckily I had no reaction either. Went in at 9am, didn't walk out til 4. Loooong day. Came home, went to Target with my mom, watched some tv, put kids to bed, and now I'm on here, feeling pretty good. I know I'll crash soon from the steriods. I'm just happy I feel so good. Glad you those of you that went in today also had an uneventful morning.
Littleblue, get it checked, stat! But, I'm sure like Stephmoen said, you're on chemo, so recurrences are probably unlikely. Don't stress yourself. Relax and deal with it tomorrow. Nothing you can do about it tonight, right? Stay positive. I'll be praying.
Night ladies.
-
Little Blue: I thought for sure I felt a lump after my lumpectomy and the lymph nodes all clear sign. But doc felt and said no it wasn't a lump.
Every 3 weeks when I went for chemo, MO palpitated breast and under arms.
And I cannot believe you'd have a growing lump while doing chemo.
I'm sure it's fine. Just ask next time you're at doctor's office.
-
GingerChi - my tumor is just at 2 cm and I'm getting perjeta - the MO didn't mention any trouble getting it approved?
Let's hope a restful night for all!!
-
Thanks you guys...kind of freaking out, but I see MO Friday for infusion, so if I can't get in sooner...ugh. this sucks. Time to double up the Ativan...what else could it be though? Damn cancer!
-
lymph nodes get swollen for loooots of reasons not just cancer stay positive I know that's hard to do freaking cancer sucks
-
Princess and Stephmoen: Have yall had surgery yet? From what I understand, had I taken Chemo prior to my BMX, it would have been approved. It may just be by insurance company being a total pain! Ugh!
Littleblue, could it be cording or something related to lymph node removal?
-
gingerchi, maybe it could? It seems to be actually really near or on the base of the cord that I already have...wondering if it's scar tissue from stuff being cut in there? Not sure if I have ever prodded around so hard in that particular area, when i founder it i was tring to mas sage that cord. Now it's sore too!
