    That is pretty balanced Mary. If all else fails have a meat and a salad (remember raw veggies and fruits are not recommended if you are immuno suppressed.

    If for some reason salads are not allowed then go with a green veggie and meat.


    Lowest carb salad dressing:

    Blue cheese (not reccomended if immuno suppresed)

    Many ranch dressings


    Lowestt carb veggies:

    Spinach

    Asparagus

    green beans

    mustard greens

    Kale

    collard greens

    squash


    Eggs:

    omelettes are fast and low carb as well.

    avocados count as an egg .

    Deviled eggs are great to make up when you have time so you have a snack handy


    Meats:

    Most any meat is ok except lobster lol

    lowest carb meats are steak and chicken.

    thanks. I ate that almost every day for months. I'd add cilantro or swap salmon for flounder here n there but was se giant salad all the time. May add tomato this round too. Although I didn't test, I know I was in ketosis bec I could feel that zone and the weight came off every day. I also felt pain in the tumor. Next thin it was hard to find. At first felt like a marble or chick pea. Then felt like more tissue was around it bec was toward the surface. But felt like a lentil.

    Bec my chemo was stopped at 4 rounds and now Herceptin held I need to get back into ketosis n master as a lifestyle. Also do you ladies do intermittent fasting? One meal a day works best for me. That's another way to click into ketosis faster. There's a lot of research on fasting, IF and cancer. Like ketosis is also starves the cancer cell. Meanwhile I've gained weight😩😞😤! Not too worried bec I've resumed running. Now that my erythitol is coming I can enjoy some decaf again to help curb my appetite. I may have a cup tmw but not sure how I'll sweeten.

    Hi Mary, are you doing ketogenic for weight loss, or try to starve cancer cells (and lose weight)? If you just want to lose weight, there's more freedom, and you don't have to sweat about your protein levels or having a few more carbs or trying to eat clean. From what I have read, to starve cancer cells you need to keep carbs very low...like Atkins induction low...and protein moderate. That can still be 75 to 100 grams or more depending on your size. A chicken breast has around 30 or so trams, an egg is around 13. Other sources are a lot smaller emounts. And you need to eat way more fat than you would think if you aren't used to counting the grams! Your avocado is an excellent source. Lots of grass fed butter, coconut oil, olive oil, flaxseed oil... I do chicken in cream sauces (dijon or carbonara) with a low carb veggie on the side. So you are right about not having to measure and count once you gat used to the approximate amounts. And I'm all for keeping things simple and easy!

    If you're just eating your salad once a day I really recommend you take a little time to measure your ingredients, look up the numbers of protein, fat and carbs and add them up. Just once, to make sure you're getting everything you need.

    haha I thought trams may have been some international measure I wasn't familiar with. I hate autospell😡! It's obnoxious.

    I'm doing keto for health n weight. I forgot to mention that I use pu olive oil as a dressing. Most dressings are too skeevy to me😖. Too many ingredients. When I want a hot meal I'll do salmon, avocado smothered in butter. How do I know how much protein I should have?

    and why no cheese agsin??? It's fat for sure. Also I don't eat meat. Just fish.

    Well, like I said, there are three schools of thought about protein levels. Is there a weight at which you felt great? Mine was so long ago I added about 15 pounds for body changes. I can always adapt as I lose and get a better idea.

    I had my first challenge day...dinner with coworkers for a 50th birthday. At an Italian restaurant! I had fried mozzarella for my starter and just left most of the breading, then chicken in a creamy sauce. I did eat one tiny potato, drank (too much) dry red wine and tasted a friend's dessert with the tip of a teaspoon. I'm proud of myself! I know my body will burn the alcohol before fat, but so far the sticks are still solidly pink.

    Hi, I've been doing Keto (with my husband) for almost 2 years and love it. We started doing it because he was diagnosed with Type II diabetes. I lost 32 lbs to my lowest weight of 119. I've since put on a couple of pounds (I'm now 127) from treatment but I'm ok with it. This is not a diet, it's a lifestyle change, but we do have cheat meals every couple months or so. :)

    I read some things above that I just wanted to reply about: All natural meats (not processed) are 0 carbs.

    hey kill the cancer! Love your screen name :) how are u doing treatment wise and keto. I'm trying to get back in the zone. Been tough but I'm closer.

    Supposedly the protein should be the size of your hand for a meal. I first started out doing Atkins for about six weeks to reset my body from a carb standpoint, kind of like weaning a drug addict. Then I incorporated more stuff into my diet, added some beans and yams. But stayed away from all processed carbs in any form. Since chemo, I have been all over the map, but I am getting ready to go back in the program

    My Fitness Pal is great for tracking carbs. Lots of foods even have an optional "net carbs" entry.

    thanks! Is it. Keto friendly app? I think I'm ok in the carbs section. I'm more concerned with the protein.

    It lets you choose what nutritional info you want to display, but yes, it tracks protein too. Also has a built-in upc code scanner, so you can just scan the label & save the food to your favorites. Tracks weight loss or gain & exercise too.

    question: does juicing conflict with keto? Too much sugar n carbs or do I just need to count them rigorously? I'm an avid juicer. Couldn't tolerate during chemo but believe is excellent for cancer. Thoughts

    yeah I thought so. Plus carrots have a lot of sugar. I would only do a 6pz glass daily. I'll count it up on the app. If not perhaps I'll plan periodic juice fasts. The nutrients that go directly into the bloodstream and absorbed into the body is invaluable.

    The problem with juicing (other than clean-up time)  is that most people prefer a carrot or fruit base like apple.  If you can juice low carb veggies, and keep track of the amounts, you might be able to do that.  Fermented saurkraut and leafy greens, for instance...very healthy, low-ish carb but truly revolting IMHO! Sick That's actually why I take the Amazing Grass Supergreenfood.  I know I don't eat enough veggies and enough of the right ones.  There's four grams of carb in a scoop, plus two grams of fibre, so only two net carbs for large amounts of green stuff like chorella, spirulina, grasses, sprouts...I don't have it in front of me, but lots of good stuff for such a small carb load.

    I purchased some raw kale and love eating it with a dressing that includes coconut oil. I grabbed some turmeric root from the grocery store and am adding that to many of my dishes. Turmeric has 4 carbs per tablespoon and I figure those are 4 great carbs to have in a day.

    It is great sprinkled in my chicken broth soup I make for lunch.

    Tumoric ala curcumin is excellent for us! I take via supplement. Meanwhile my salad has waaaay too much protein :( I gotta figure something out. Im doing good on the fat side. Need to cut the fruit😩! Too much sugar and carbs. I'll get this right soon God willing

    Does anyone has any suggestions for low carb foods that will build energy? I drink 4 ounces tomato juice each am (4 carbs). I am tired all the time and have not even started chemo.


    Any suggestions?

    I didn't even know that tomato juice was supposed to build energy.  I've heard good things about bone broth, but I haven't tried it myself while I source out grass-fed beef bones.  I take CoQ10 300 mg.  Not only is it supposed to increase energy, but clinical studies at levels of 400 mg were shown to reduce the size of tumours.  The diet itself is supposed to increase energy levels, but I always found it just crept up on me, and I didn't notice the energy until I did something to make it go away again. 

    What we're going through is just exhausting, though.  Recovery, treatments, stress and worry...I have found it difficult to believe that I have managed to function through all this.  When there's only a cup of energy, though, you have to decide where to use it.  In my case, I used it to get through work because I lost enough cash over this, and still spend far more than normal on supplements and special food.  But that didn't leave much leftover for friends, family, my home, my grooming...  Things are improving now, but I'm still more tired than I would like to be.  But if I'm up and dressed, with combed hair and brushed teeth, I figure that's a victory and as much as anyone can expect from me this year!

    Thank you Milaandra, I have cheated a bit this week and I am sure that has contributed to my tiredness. Not sleeping the best never helps ..ha!

    I am going to look up the CoQ10 300 mg and see if adding that will help. I will make sure to ask the doc since I am startiong chemo this week if it is ok to go ahead and add or if I should wait until I am in between treatments.

    Milaandra, do you have any links to the COQ10 research? I find that of extreme interest since I take COQ10. Well, I did. Stopped a lot during chemo to minimize side effects, but since my last round is Thursday, after that, back on the good stuff!

    HI all, I'm interested in this program. can someone point me to a site where I can learn about it. I read through the entire thread but amd confused. it seems like this is similar to atkins, but not.. also where do you buy the sticks to test your urine and what  are they called. Thanks for any help
