I would ask for clarification from your ps but my understanding is that all scars (regardless of the type of reconstruction) need to be protected from the sun for about a year for best cosmetic results. I was even told by one ps that some of the sun's rays can penetrate a bathing suit and if I wanted to be careful it was best to use sunscreen on the scars hidden under my suit for about a year. I am guessing that the warning about protecting yourself from the sun's rays is about protecting scars and not about protecting the implants themselves.

My understanding has something to do with the skin being so thin too, that it is easily burned. Char
