January 2015 Surgery Sisters

Has anyone completed the exchange yet? I was asked by my MS (multiple sclerosis) dr to get a brain MRI but can't have it done until after my exchange. Just FYI you CANNOT have an MRI done if you have tissue expanders in. I have 6 more chemo treatments to go then healing time before my PS will complete the exchange. I'm so ready for theseste's to come out. Praying the squishy 's will feel better.

Hello Msmath!
I had my exchange surgery on May 1st and yes they feel better than those darn TE's! I'll send positive and healing thoughts your way.
-
trailrose how was the healing time compared to the first surgery
-
Hi Ms. Math, I had my exchange on May 13th and I have to say that it feels better than the TE in certain ways. No more tightness or muscle spasm in shoulder/back. This may sound crazy, but I was getting used to the TE near the end. I am still having some discomfort on and off on my MX side. However, my native side, which was augmented to match the MX side, seems to heal quicker. As far as pain, native side was much more painful at the beginning because it had to go to almost the same amount of muscle stretching in one day. Exchange surgery is definitely easier that Mx or TE placement.
May you have minimal SE with the chemo and may the exchange sx creeps up on you before you know it. You take care

Msmath- The exchange healing was fast for me. I only took pain medication for 2 days. When I was in recovery they asked me on the scale where I was with pain and I looked at the nurse and said "This is nothing compared to the BMX with TE placement!" I had some tightness in my chest but that horrible shoulder/back pain was gone. Now I'm almost at six weeks post op and sometimes I don't even realize that I have implants.

Trailrose Have you gone back to running yet? I am dying to go back to playing badminton, but PS said no until after 6 weeks
-
Loveroflife- I'm cleared to start running again at the 6 week mark which is this Friday! I have been hiking quite a bit to keep my fitness level. You must be so excited to get back to playing badminton. You are so close to that 6 week mark so hang in there!
It's so nice to hear from my January 2015 surgery sisters!
-
I somehow lost track of this thread! So glad to hear from those of you having successful exchanges.
I'm hoping to interview some surgeons this summer and start figuring out a recon plan.
-
Hey Cassie, I think of you and the other sisters and every so often and wonder how everyone is doing. You are done with radiation right? And almost done with Herceptin?
Good for you Trailrose! Go get that runner's high I heard you guys get when you run...just make sure you don't get too high and run into trees or things hah
-
Loveroflife- You made me laugh!
CassieCat- Good to hear from you! You're moving right along and yes interview, interview, interview the PS's!
