Yes, We Need a Vacation
It is that time of year. After being diagnosed w BC last Sept. I was not even sure I was still capable of having fun, enjoying myself and thought about just skipping vacation altogether-not to mention the fact I don't have many vacation days left, but we did it.
My husband and I spent 4 wonderful days in Hot Springs AK recently. A very low key, inexpensive and spa kind of vacation- a big change from the family vacations of old (amusement parks, cabins where I cooked and cleaned just like at home).
Someone recently posted a thread called How Big is Your Whale, or something like that, about how much we think about and can't get away from dwelling on our BC diagnoses, and my whale has been pretty danged big, but for those four days, I sometimes almost forgot about the whole BC thing for hours at a time.
We did the mineral baths, massages, ate out, mined for quartz crystals one morning, shopped, walked everywhere as we stayed in a rustic historic hotel close to downtown. The city is beautiful, has a wonderful park, plenty of dining options, inexpensive and healthy. I can't begin to tell you how much I needed and enjoyed this kind of vacation.
I'm asking others to share their vacation destinations to de-stress and to give ideas to others about where they might want to go-because whether you believe me or not, if you have been diagnosed w BC you NEED a vacation! I'm so glad my husband talked me into it. I so needed it and you do too! Do it.

sounds heavenly, Labelle! We just got back from Palm Beach. We rested and relaxed and went scuba diving. We even had sex!! LOL
I registered with www.littlepinkhouses.com, check it out - could be a great vacation!

We went to San Antonio and saw my BFF and then went to Galveston for the week. We would leave the door to our balcony open at night and listen to the crash of the waves as we faded off to sleep. I think the most strenuous thing we did was watch the pelicans fly by our balcony of our hotel. LOL!!!! First vacation in two years and it was wonderful!!!!

labelle, we did Hot Springs a few years ago, so cool with old school charm. We drove from San Diego to Key West (yes we are crazy!) and had the best trip, Key West, San Antonio, Hot Springs, New Orleans, Fort Myers Beach. I want to do it again after all this bc crap is done

I am so depressed. My husband makes me feel so worthless. Every word out his mouth makes me feel bad. For instance, if you want a birthday present just buy something on ebay. Should I drive to the airport book a flight to paradise just me and my American express card. My 57th birthday is Saturday and I want to swim in the ocean and bask in the sun.

Meow, your husband needs a swift kick in the pants.
-
Meow, leave his ass at home and take a friend. Just because he doesn't want to do anything, doesn't mean you can't do something. My next vacation is when my husband and son go to California for a week. Darn the luck, they are leaving me at home. WOO-HOO!!!!!!
-
Yes, you should Meow. Leave him home, go by yourself or with a friend or an an adult child (if you have on of those who is a good egg). A vacation with a good companion is best IMO, but a solo vacation is better than no vacation I think. And look at all these great ideas for places to go!
Anyone been to New Orleans post Katrina? I'm thinking of that for out next vacation-and I'm not sure I want to wait a year. My brother went to college in New Orleans years ago and I loved to visit him but I've not been there since Katrina and my husband has never been.

I usually go on vacation with my husband but BC was a wake up call to start on my bucket list. I enjoy photography and stargazing and though I have not been posting many pics lately,( DR put me on Effexor and it did a number on me, yesterday was first day back in Gym after quitting), I signed up for a 4 day astro photography course in Acadia National Park and Barr Harbor Maine with tiny class and top photographers to teach and help, taking pics at sunset, dawn and milky way and stars if weather permits. I told DH I was going. No point in taking hm as its not his thing and its expensive enough for one person.. I am having to try and get fit again in the next month though cos of the long drive to Maine and hiking and carrying gear but the scenery will be awesome!!. So ticked off about the Effexor. I was getting fit before I took it.
I am thinking tentatively about a photo trip to Arizona and Utah next years but that's a bit too far in advance for me to think too much about at present and savings would take a big hit!!.
When I was a bit younger and single, I windsurfed, sometimes with my girlfriends but often just with a group of club members or strangers but it was so much fun and I got to go to some nice places. If circumstances permit its so important just to try and do some of the things you dream about when everything in life is so uncertain. Sometimes you just have to decide and then do it by yourself. Whenever I have been on my own I have tried to find an organized group or trip so there are others to enjoy the experience with

Meow, I agree with the others that you should go somewhere with a friend.
I an counting down to a serious girl's trip with my sister and niece. We are going to spend the weekend at Disney before leaving on a 4 night cruise to the Bahamas Monday. Hubby will stay home to watch our dogs. I would feel bad for him except that I was home shoveling snow when he went on his golf trip to the beach in March
