I didn't do chemo, but one of my ex co-worker did. The steroid they gave her before the chemo infusion made her really wired. The fatigue didn't hit her until the next day. Hopefully, you dodge all the bad side effects. May the Raids get all the cockroaches!!!! Will be thinking about you this afternoon.
-
Ms. Spookie, good to hear your arm is behaving.
-
good afternoon ladies. So it's the 2nd day my ds's are home and the 2nd day I've been miserable. Crazy terrible migraines which causes nausea and severe back pain. Def not what I had planned for the summer Oh well it's still early lots of time before school starts sgain to have some fun. ( I hope )
-
Patty- I am sorry to hear about your migraines and the rest. I hope they move on through so you can enjoy the time with your girls this summer. You deserve that and so much more.
Loveroflife- oh yeah, but how do you drive with hair like that? I mean, convertible only?
-
Oh yeah...was not thinking as usual. Do you think she will like this since she's a smart girl?

Oh btw, it's Mel, Rose, and I with young girls
-
Oh Patty, wish I could share my Zofran and stash with you
-
loveroflife--fantastic hats!
Chevy-- they always say that if you fall of the pole, you have to get right back up and ride that pole. Or that might be horses. Or something.
Sitting in the chair now--about 1/3 way through. Gotta pee because I'm on my 5th bottle of water but I'm toocomfortable to drag all my iv lines to the bathroom. **Note to self, investigate depends or poise pads to find out if they can hold 48+ ounces of water
-
Spookie- I am glad you are is okay too. Sounded a bit scary. Hope the pups are doing okay with the storms.
Marlanab- dang, about needing to pee. Can someone help you to the bathroom?
-
Marlana, I'm one who did have chemo, so I will give you all the tips I can think of. Looks like you are not going to learn the joys of adriamycin, the red devil. But I had your two. One thing with taxotere is that it messes with your nose and tear ducts. They leak. In fact, now, 6 months post final chemo (PFC) I still have a drippy nose much of the time, and sometimes my eyes just start leaking, especially when I'm tired. My MO said that was the taxotere.
Steroids. I had to take 2 twice a day the day before and the day after. My chemo nurse advised me to take the second dose of the day no later than 3pm so I could sleep at night.
I've never been a big water drinker but DH bought me a sodastream and I love sparkling lemonaide, it's still my go to drink. Some people swear by ginger for the nausea, but although I've always loved ginger in all forms, during chemo I couldn't stand it. Lemon drops worked well.
I always felt ok until day 3, and then I was out for the count for at least the next five.
Best food for me was mac and cheese. Important to keep your tummy bacteria balanced, so I had Activia Greek every night at bedtime.
Ask me anything, PM if you want. No questions off limit. You can do this. I did and I'm a big baby. -
P.S. The steroids had the unfortunate effect of messing with my bladder functions. I couldn't feel when it was coming. It was just the 3 steroid days, day before, day of chemo and day after, and I got adult diapers for those days.
I don't know which chemo it was that messed with my tongue, could have been the adriamycin, if so you won't need this. My tongue could not (and still can't) handle anything with vinegar or heavy spice. I couldn't even tolerate toothpaste, and still am using kids toothpaste. -
Marlana, pee to get the toxin out of your bladder. Both Cytoxan and Taxotere are nephrotoxic that is why they hydrate you
-
I got mouth sores, couldn't stand adult minty toothpaste. So I got some fruit flavor kids stuff. A/C destroyed my taste, even water tasted yucky. Took a while, but taste did come back.
I won't go into what happened with Taxotere and me. Wasn't nice.
-
First round down. Feeling pretty good so far--a little giddy and a slightly warm. I drank 32 oz of water before and 64 oz during. I got up to pee twice while on the drip. My otter pops defrosted in my cooler--may have to half freeze my water next time or add more ice packs. I just ate a chicken salad sandwich with no problem. No nausea yet but they gave me 2 zofran at 1:30 PST and it's just after 6 now. Mouth is feeling a little funky so I'm sucking on ice chips.
Lots of good tips, ladies, and I'll definitely get some activia as I've had recurrent C. Diff and another bout of that right now would not be good. I do have some probiotic tablets that I take daily but that's daily maintenance.
-
Marlanb- I am glad you got through your first day. Just knowing what to expect next time will make the infusion day easier (although none of this is particularly easy).
I am glad you are doing okay so far and were able to eat dinner. I use probiotics daily too.
I hope you can sleep well tonight.
Hoping everyone else had a good hump day.
-
Marlanb - congrats on getting through your first round! Hang in there! I have Celiac so PM me if you ever have any questions about it.
Chevy - Crazy!! My DD2 had laryngospasms, too and I figured it out by watching YouTube videos, too!! It was last year and we think they were triggered by antibiotics for sinus infections. She was on a nasal steroid spray and PPI for about 7 months for it.
Patty - so sorry to hear about the migraines - hope tomorrow is a better day!!
Spent some time online this morning looking into some ergonomic keyboards and a different type of mouse. Am hoping those will work well. Ordered a mastectomy swimsuit last night. I don't have any swim forms, but have read on here about people using bath poofs instead. I hope to be able to wear the suit top without any forms, but may break down and get some if it doesn't work without anything. Night all!
-
Mar.. yay 1st 1 done, usually sick 2nd day after, steroids just kept me up, benedryl made me drowsy, never slept.
Taxotere i was on for over a year, took myself off cause se too bad
Patty, so sorry migraines, we still have 2 talk.
Spookie, where do u live?
Hi chevy n others no plans 4 the week, hospice is going well, got the package deal, comes with nurse twice a week, social worker n ex priest 4 counseling....
-
My DH and college age DD went to a TIMBERS Soccer game for my DH's birthday. A sold out home game and they won! YAY! My DH has a severe addiction to soccer, might even be a religion for him. What a nice b-day gift.
Well I admire anyone that can slog through chemo because it's hard. Hats off! Round one down!
Hi there Blondie, you sound good and I am Happy for you. Happy planning for Florida! Just feel those warm breezes and sand in between your toes.... watch the pelicans swoop by! Oh so fine! Howdies to all I didn't mention. JWoo are you safe from the waters?
-
Hey all-
Rose- I have not floated away, yet! They have us at a 50% chance of storms the next 2 days. While I am not complaining, we need the water, it is getting a little overwhelming.
I am lucky- a lot of others have not been. This last weekend was devastating for so many.
Lake Travis rose over 29 feet in a few days. Here is a time lapse of it: http://kxan.com/2015/05/27/time-lapse-shows-lake-travis-incredible-30-day-rise/
Sounds like your DH and DD had a great time!
Blondie- glad you are getting great care and support finally! you deserve it!

-
Blondie, I'm next to Clearwater on the west coast. Sas is just south of Daytona on the east coast.
Where are you going?
-
blondie--thanks for the heads up on day 2. I'm 23 hours in, slept about 6 hours, nausea is minimal. I got in about about 150 oz of fluids yesterday so I think that's helping to flush out the poison.
My dad is from a little town called Thomasville, PA, just west of York.
May your journey be peaceful and pain-free.
JWoo--what a dramatic video! Thanks for sharing. Good to know you're holding up. Can you ship a little water to the west? We're on scheduled lawn watering and my tiny patch of grass is withering. My back yard is zero-scaped as in it's just dirt
-
loveroflife. - yes id def share your stash. Dang uptight arkansas. Can't ever see mj bring approved here. Heck my county is dry and you can't even buy alcohol.
Marla - round 1 done. Congrats ! Sounds like your doing a great job staying hydrated. It does make a huge difference.
Blondie. - would love to talk. When do you leave for Florida ? Glad hospice is helping. Hugs
Chevy & SAS - hi
Hugs to all I missed. Sorry
Iam feeling a lot better today. My ds's last day of school was last Friday. So far all they have done is watch me be miserable. No fun. Today is better. They have a couple neighbor kids over and have been in the pool all day. Lots of laughing and no fighting. That's very good for 4 boys all day. So glad to see them happy. Puts a huge smile on my face.
Hootie hoo
-
I love when you guys talk about your little kids.... Makes me wish my girls were still little! Or even my Grandsons! Always something to do.... If even only going across the fence, and sitting on a blanket and having a picnic next to the running water..... Ah geez, I could go on all day with my memories... ! Have fun with those little ones.... it's like we can hardly wait for them to grow up, and they all of a sudden they are, and they have their own lives, and we are lucky if we are still part of them!.... Or if they live close!
I'm just feeling blessed...... mostly because I know how much worse things could be.... Have a great week-end my friends!
-
Hootie hoo- glad for the better day today. May those migraines leave forever.
-
amen to that !!!!
-
Patty, Shhhhhhhh. Don't want to get into trouble, you know. She lives south of me. You are happy, I am happy.
Marlana, laughter is good medicine. A lady I play badminton with who went through chemo six years ago for bc said that one of the things that helped her to get through her treatment was watching comedies. This article is quite interesting:
http://www.cancercenter.com/treatments/laughter-th...
Nothing to lose....

-
loveroflife--there's leaking and as I get older, I'm starting to experience leaking! Oh, the things that no one warns the young about getting older!
-
Doing good decided to b happy...
Going to cape coral, spookie...think flying into tampa, in july 4 2 weeks
-
Marlana, Know what you mean. Just as you see your last menstrual pad, you need the poise.
-
Blondie- it is good to feel happy. Glad to hear it. Can't wait to hear about your FL adventures. On the beach in your string bikini. You go girl!
-
Blondie, good decision in choosing to be happy. I can see Ms. Spookie and Ms. Sass taking good care of you when you visit Florida. I have seen Ms. Spookie's display of colorful thongs she posted.
Ms. Chevy, you are right...kids grow too fast. I just have to remember to enjoy them while they are still with me. My older daughter will be in college next fall!!!!! My baby!!!! I played chess with my younger daughter tonight and can't help but feel sad that she is 12 already. It doesn't seem like very long ago she started kindergarten and now I worry that she will beat me at chess.
