PET scan

My diagnosis is very new and so much has happened so fast. I had a CT scan and bone scan before my recent lumpectomy that both came back clear except for what they originally believed to be small cysts on my liver. However, once 4 nodes tested positive, they have ordered a PET scan to further evaluate what they still claim to believe are benign cysts on my liver. Has anyone else had this happen? Is this normal? Any involvement of the liver has me extremely anxious. :(

Proverbs35678, I have been through about the same. I had the CT, bone scan, then PET. But it all worked out well, and I am done with chemo, surgery, and rads. The more info the better I think. I always want to know what I am dealing with and what is coming next. Right now, I am stable and have the summer off until after Labor Day. And thankful for the break, best not to borrow trouble. Good Luck! Cheryl

Thank you, Cheryl. It just worried me a little that they weren't concerned at all about the spots on my liver when the CT initially came back. Then, after surgery and discovering positive nodes, they ordered the PET scan. You're right, though...no need in borrowing trouble! I have been to the doctor more in one month than in my previous 36 years...so it's taking some getting used to. Thank you for responding. So glad to hear you are stable and getting a break

Yes, I'd say it's normal. They want to see if you "light up" anywhere else. It could make a difference in the type of treatment.

    Hi There

I was 32 when diagnosed last year and had a similar experience I have two tiny lesions on my liver that they picked up on mri. The one they can see on ultra sound. My oncologist was pretty sure they were benign but it's resulted in two mri scans two ultra sounds and two pet scans oh my u start to really feel like a science project! Hoping for benign results for u too which I'm sure they will be!

Thank you so much. That makes me feel a lot better! They moved the PET scan up to tomorrow so I will be glad to get that over with! Thank you for your encouragement

I know nothing about spots on liver but I do know that not everything that 'lights up' on a PET is not cancer. It can/will 'light up' on any inflammation. On my PET before TX, an area along my lower right jaw 'lit up'. The area was biopsied that afternoon, got the path. report the next morning - nothing there. That was almost 6 yes ago (Aug '09) and still no issue in the area.

Thanks for this information, Kicks! That is good to know. This is the last of my big "scans" pre-treatment...and I'm very anxious about it. Maybe your post will help me not to panic if something does look suspicious. Thank you
