You too Patty.

Loveroflife - Thanks! Yes, I am going to try *really* hard to keep up with the clean now that it has been done so fully. So far, so good, but it's only been a day - LOL! Funny you mentioned the massage thing - my DH and I used to always take turns giving each other shoulder massages while watching TV. Not sure how or when it happened, but we haven't done that in literally years. Something made me think of it recently - probably my sore shoulder - and I mentioned it to him and we have started the massages again! It's a win-win situation since we both love shoulder massages! Yes, it is hard to stay away from the computer, especially with work, so that is why I haven't been on it much at home. I just need to keep a good balance and take breaks to stretch and I will see if that helps.
And how are you feeling? I hope you are good!
-
I am slowly getting my energy back. Thanks for asking. Acquired tinnitus again with this surgery from the Keflex PS gave me to help prevent infection, but no complaints because I can still hear the birds and the wind chime in my backyard
I hope the ringing is temporary because it's hard to fall asleep at times. I am still sore, worse when I forget and move my a arms more than I am supposed to. If I was not married or a widow , I would probably stay flat....well, lopsided because I was a Uni. Don't want bc to rob us of the intimacy also. I was too self-conscious. Ok, sorry too much info there.DD took the AP Chem exam and said it was really hard. The year that my youngest brother had Chem, only 3 out 40 in his class passed. Yikes! Her teacher told the class anyone who passes with a 3 score automatically get an A in the class, so the child carried the Prep book with her everywhere she went. Now she is trying to study for the SAT that is coming up in 2 weeks. Your DD2 is done with the SAT right? Will DD1 pursue graduate study or she is done and ready to look for a job
-
No little Loverly.... We talk about everything here.... Don't forget.... I am 77, and we are still THAT with each other.... Hope you get your energy back FAST! Sometimes we just feel awful.... don't want to move.... but drag yourself out of bed anyway.... drink coffee.... and go outdoors...
Man, I hated school.... And didn't go to College.... I know that's hard for y'all to believe, but Nope.... only graduated High School, then met my DH that year, and we got married 1 1/2 years later....
I'm glad I don't have to help any kids out with their school-work... especially MATH! My worst subject....
-
I can beat that Chevy, got married at 17, the summer before my senior year started. Finished high school, went to work, had kids, the rest is history. Took some college classes but theywere fun types.
-
Loveroflife - glad your energy is coming back - I hope the tinnitus resolves soon. I think that is one of the things my DD2 had with a Zpack years ago. It's such a bummer when you get side effects from the meds! As Chevy said, no worries - all sharing is good! I can totally understand your feelings!
Yes, DD2 is done with the SAT!! She improved her scores the second time, so she was happy about that (and we were, too)! She did well the first time, but I think it helped her to see that studying a bit more and taking it the second time gave her higher results. I hope your DD gets that 3 she is looking for on the AP Chem exam! Mine took the AP English exam last Wednesday, so we'll see how she did on that. DD1 is ready to look for a teaching job but is also looking into taking classes to get certified to teach Pre-K and younger. Her degree was in Elementary Education. I suggested years ago that she look into getting a double with both because I knew how much she likes the younger ones but she didn't think it would fit in her schedule. Now she wishes she had done it. It doesn't look like it will be too many credits, though so hopefully she will be able to do it without too much trouble.
Chevy - my best friend and I always joke about math being the hardest thing to help the kids with once they got past Elementary school...many times I had to say that I had no idea how to do whatever they were doing!
-
OMD!!! Math. I have 10 fingers, 10 toes. That's about the best I can do. The grands ask me to look over their homework I tell them to have their mom check it. 1st grade is beyond me, 4th is like a foreign language. I read numbers wrong all the time, it's called dyscalculia.
-

Well, neither DH nor I have a college degree, yet he is a manager in the IT department of an insurance corporation in charge of a web applications development team, and I ran my own graphics arts business for 18 years. We both made more than our college educated siblings.
Yesterday was the 28th anniversary of the day we met. We married 2 months later. I am 9 years older than he. We have so many strikes against us it's a miracle we've made it. My family had bets on how long we'd last, and I think they topped out at 5 years. His folks waited a year to send us a wedding present. We got married at the courthouse by a cross eyed judge. We couldn't tell who he was talking to. Our reception was at my sister and BIL's house and we had leftover wedding cake and champagne from their big church wedding the month before.
It's been an adventure.

mags...great t shirt

Mags--glad the furkids are doing better. Mine are my only children and I would be completely broken if something happened to one of them, especially at this time in my life.
First chemo got bumped to Wednesday instead of Thursday. It's only 20 hours difference but I'm still kind of pissed that the forced me to change my time. I feel like I have little enough control as it is with cancer and one small piece of control was choosing my appointment times. <sigh> Add in being down with a sinus infection for the last few days and I'm having a peachy time. At least the weather is will be warming up. Positively freezing with a high of 68 the last couple of days...
Sas--good advice on calling 911 first. Over the course of my 21 year career of giving pre-arrival medical instructions, I've only had one call where we were unable to dislodge the object before the medics arrived on scene but given that our average response time from phone call to arrival is about 5 minutes, that one person would not have made it had the family waited to call. And that's one time too many.
Loverly - I took the AP chem test 27 years ago and scored a 5. It's tough and I don't think I slept for the whole 3 days prior. Didn't get me squat, though, other than 6 college units. I was a biochem major and my university made me start all over with Intro to Chem. And now I'm a dispatcher so I don't use any chem. I did, once upon a time, save a group of people stranded on a boat about 2 miles off of shore with the cunning use of Trigonometry. So if anyone ever complains about not using math later in life, you can tell them that math saves lives. My brother has Ph.D and is a math professor at South Dakota State University and uses that line in his classes. Plus, he worked with cancer researchers at the Mayo clinic a few years back developing mathematical models for viral therapy in Immuno-oncology.
I may have to get him that T-shirt!

Morning gals........... Marla, can you still get chemo if you have a sinus infection? Make sure you tell them that...
I never had chemo, and don't know anything about it, but just thought I read somewhere, that it matters, if you aren't feeling well....
YOU took chemistry? Man, you guys are smarter than I was/am... This must be college we are talking here? When EYE was a kid, my folks didn't have enough money, to barely get by... much less send me to college, and IF I wanted to go... Ha!
Besides, they MOVED out of State right after I graduated high-school...
(Wait.... I didn't MAKE them leave, it wasn't on account of ME that they left, Ha! It was more that they decided to make a new life... and my Brother and I .... oh never mind....) They wanted a new life without any encumbrances .... like kids or old "friends"....
You know...come to think of it...... that really sucked, them leaving us!
And I wouldn't leave my "boy-friend" who then became my husband 1 1/2 year later... to tag along with them.
So we had each other... that was all that mattered... and still do... all 57 years together...
All I ever wanted was a happy marriage... First a Husband, then hopefully we could have children, THEN maybe our own home.
And I got everything I ever wanted... I didn't shoot big... just wanted my own happy life....
Congratulations Mel! Our DD1 finished college by working her way through, grants, student loans, and working part-time... She also got financial aid... I was only working part-time, so we couldn't help her out much... but she MADE it! Very proud of her....
I admire ANYbody who is comfortable with math, and figuring things out!
Spookie! YOU just made that up! What is "dyscalculia?" She made that UP girls....
Oh for DOGS sakes! She knows what she is talking about! No WONDER I had such a hard time!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dyscalculia
I'll be darned! BUT, I make up for it by having the ability to remember NUMBERS! I make up for that lack of whatever, by learning and remembering numbers from childhood even! Like that's gonna help me now..... But I know all of our account numbers by heart, and phone numbers, addresses, from when I was a child! So see? I DO know something... Ha!
Nice shirt Mags! I didn't see anything wrong with it at first!
-
-
Mags- I liked your story about your husband and yourself beating the odds, and everyone saying it would not work out. And that you are and have done well professionally. I come from a huge family of naysayers and they always tried to tell me "you can't" which only means they couldn't. They have had to choke on my accomplishments more than a few times.
I am watching the Weather Channel this morning and they are talking about the severe flooding in OK, including OK City. Are you guys okay?
How about our TX friends (Luvmygoats?)
-
We are ok here, our house sets high enough and we have pretty good drainage. But I have seen some horrible pics from around the state and Texas. With a week left in the month, May is already the wettest month on record in Oklahoma. We've had over 18" of rain so far, and the old record was 14.52". We are expecting another downpour this afternoon. I think I have mold in my underarms, scared to check.
-
Mags- whew, glad you are okay. I saw the Trinity River in Dallas is way high and have many friends in TX who live in that area. I heard more rain is coming.
Mold in the underarms is funny.....
For those who are interested, I posted a whole series of pics on the Gardening Thread from my trip to the Botanical Garden in Santa Fe yesterday. Rather than re-post, since I am still up here "resorting" today, I thought I would just send you to that link to see them if you are interesting.

Blessings to everyone here and their families on Memorial Day.Thank you to everyone here who may have served.
Enjoy your day, the pool and hot tub are calling......

20 feet in one hour. Oh My, those poor people and animals.
Chevy and Loverly, I did, I did, mortal sin, SR. Ann would be so unhappy.
Mel, when I clean out the medicine area in the linen closet, the question is who bought all this stuff? I've been de-cluttering for a couple of years now.
Math, I hated it too. But I did the Drug calculation lecture for my paramedic students. It was algebra. Every year someone would raise their hand a say very knowingly "This is just algebra". I was always pretty controlled in my response. It followed the line of "We don't use that word here". Some students would just shut down once they heard that word. Made my work harder. Only lost 2 out of the ones that didn't complete. One other student showed up after 43 hours of tutoring for the last two hours(45 total). Failed on the 3rd try. Then she asked what we could do. "Nothing". Keep in mind I'd come in on the weekend all kinds of weird hours and extra evening hours. I don't count her as my failure.
The test that irritates me is the PSAT. National test that is tied to the National Merit Scholarships. Think it's tenth grade. Material on it is not covered until the next grade. You can imagine the discussion once I found this out. It can be taken again after the material is covered, but it doesn't qualify them for the scholarship program. I imagine other states do it after the material is covered, but Florida doesn't.
-
Great pics Jazzy,
Everyone have a nice afternoon
Is it 3 pm for the national moment of rememberance ? -
Chevy, I don't have dyscalculia, but dyslexia. I can manipulate numbers but am not working with the same numbers as the rest of the class. Same result. I can hear a phone number, write it down, and realize I have not written down what I heard. Not necessarily the right numbers scrambled, sometimes totally different numbers. Not good when you're the receptionist.
Magdalene, Glad to hear you're not under water. I grew up in Midwest City, so I've been watching local news. Have friends in your neighborhood. It's hard to fathom the flash floods in Texas.
-
I know! Sometimes I think we have "shorts" in our wiring.... I mean it makes sense to me...
My friend sent me this, for those few of us that ARE hovering around 60.... I myself don't even REMEMBER being that young.... Ha!
BAD COMBINATIONS
Many of us "Old Folks" (those over 60, WAY over 60, or hovering near 60)are quite confused about how we should present ourselves.
We're unsure about the kind of image we are projecting
and whether or not we are correct as we try to conform to current fashions.
Despite what you may have seen on the streets,
the following combinations DO NOT go together and should be avoided:
1. A nose ring and bifocals
2. Spiked hair and bald spots
3. A pierced tongue and dentures
4. Miniskirts and support hose
5. Ankle bracelets and corn pads
6. Speedo's and cellulite
7. A belly button ring and a gall bladder surgery scar
8. Unbuttoned disco shirts and a heart monitor
9. Midriff shirts and a midriff bulge
10. Bikinis and liver spots
11. Short shorts and varicose veins
12. Inline skates and a walkerAnd last, but not least . . my personal favorite:
13. Thongs and Depends. Please keep these basic guidelines foremost in your mind when you shop.
-
well, my moonflowers started blooming yesterday, but...
I am not sure if it is still there because:
we have a little flooding happening! 3 inches deep on our patio!
about 6 inches deep in the middle of the yard
It wraps around from one side of the house..
flowing thru like a river
and continues on to the other side.
We are going to have some massive mosquitoes.

Raycie (DBF's mom's dog) hate thunder. She roams the house, and if any smaller rooms have doors open, she ends up shutting the door with her kangaroo-like tail. We woke up this morning to her stuck int he utility room. Goofy girl.
-
Jwoo- the moon flower looks like a Georgia O'Keefe painting!
I have friends in Austin posting about tornadoes in TX this afternoon. I hope the flooding in the yard stays there and does not come inside.
-
Hi Loveforlife,
Did you try Magnesium supplements for your tinnitus? My ORL prescribed me some a long time ago (tinnitus caused by neighbours having a whole night party, and smoking cannabis...) and it worked a treat. I would use Mg taurate rather than Mg oxide, to avoid digestive issues.
Best wishes.
-
No tornadoes in Austin proper today, had some Saturday. Right now- downtown is underwater though!
My town had aver 5 inches of rain in less than an hour.
Lots of idiots trying to go around and over low water crossings and flooded roads. Putting emergency workers in danger. That really chaps my hide.
I tell my friends "if you die that way- i am so capping on your azz at your funeral." grrr.
-
JWoo- we have similar challenges here every summer. Lots of natural and cement arroyos here that drain water down from the mountains into the valleys. There are always kids riding bikes in them and others hanging around in them that have to be rescued. I hope people don't try to play chicken with the rushing waters. They will loose.....
-
Water always wins.
-
Mel, we have friends who are teachers. I have great respect for them. The love of children is required in order to find fulfillment in teaching primary school because teachers don't get compensated enough for the time and energy they put in to prepare for the class, let alone having to deal with the parents.
We can only guide and encourage our kids and hope that they listen so they don't have to take the long route, but sometimes they just have to learn it their way and hopefully not the hard way.
Mag, you robbed the cradle!!! Good for you. Love the the story and the shirt. It took me a few seconds to figure out what was wrong with it, and I have a college degree! Glad you are ok, but feel bad for the others who are misplaced and have damaged properties...saw it on the front page of the newspaper today.
Marla, you are one Sharp Cookie!!!!! Wow, a perfect score on AP Chem exam, I take my hat off to you. You are right in that most of the things we learn in school we don't get to apply it to real life. Hoping for minimal side effects with the chemo and maximum power to kick those rogue cancer cells.
Ms. Chevy, you are also one Sharp Cookie yourself!!! Appreciate you pointing out our silly writing errors. We all are where we are because of circumstances we were placed in and the paths we took based on the situations. I think that if my parents didn't escape Viet Nam, I would not have a higher education because competition was/is fierce there....I would not stand a chance. Anyway, college degree does not mean anything if a person can't find a job or use it to better others' lives. Plus, it doesn't guarantee happiness.
Ms. Sass, you taught before too What is SR- sugar rush??
Jazzy, thanks for the pics. Thinking about ripping out our front lawn and replace it with xeriscape garden. Our grass looks really sad right now with water restriction down to one day a week. We need HOA approval first though:( so I am trying to research drought friendly landscaping ideas.
Whoa JWoo, looks like you live in the tropics!!! Poor Raycie
-
JWoo, my son sent me video of Barton Springs today. Unbelievable! We were there the end of March for his wedding and spent a few hours there.
Hope everything is ok for you
-
Loveroflife- I have the xeri-scaping so PM me once you get your approvals.
-
Penzance, just. looked up and saw your post. Thank you for the recommendation. Will look into Magnesium. Bioflavonoids is supposed to help with tinnitus too. I am not taking anything currently. I am hoping that it will go away by itself....wishful thinking. I will give it another week or two
