Confused after Surgical consult.
Quick synopsis of history:
Dec 13 - Nipple leakage started/pain - went to do, had a mammo/us - neg
Dec 14- Found hardened area at tip of breast/pain.slight swelling - went to doc, had mammo/us - benign mass found no concerns
Starting March swelling increased, pain increased, nipple restracted, hardening of skin
I called my doc every week for 7 weeks until I convinced her to schedule another Mammo/US
April 29th- mammo/us - 5 cm mass behind nipple
Biopsy - March 13th
DX IDC March 15th
Breast turned reddish / peau d'orange
Surgical Consult yesterday - he said its inflammatory or locally aggressive but said I shouldn't be that concerned.
I am as this has been a long time and everything I see talk about the aggressiveness of it .. he seemed to act like no big difference but everything I read indicates different. I am relatively calm ( prob shock or denial) but should I be more worried or wait for more results.
I meet my medical oncologist tomorrow, my radiation oncologist Monday and an MRI, then a CT and PET scan.
They want t start CHEMO end of next week.
BTW this is such an informational and inspirational site ..thanks for just sharing !

I was diagnosed idc & inflammatory bc in 6/09. Glad your doctors were so thorough in testing you. Inflammatory bc requires chemo first. I was in shock or denial when diagnosed and I believe it helped me get through the first year. Try not to worry, all the results are not in yet. Feel at ease that every test is being done in order to get you on the correct treatment plan.
Hugs,
Terri

Thanks.. still waiting on tests but met with Medical Oncologist today . they are a great team .. ER/PR- and Her2+.. no scans completed yet but fingers crossed.
Tentative plan pending scans, getting Port in later next week , Start FEC June 1 ( 3 cycled) then D and the Her2? anti treatment (3 cycles).. so we have a kind of plan in place !

Hi Natejordlee, like you, I was diagnosed IBC ER/PR- and Her2+ back in December. My oncologist has been very positive from the start because he believes in the powerful Herceptin & Perjeta combo to target Her2+. I have 2 more treatments to go, and will continue Herceptin for a year. I had every symptom of IBC (red/hard/swollen breast, inverted nipple, peau d'orange) and they are gone now except a much smaller mass in the middle of my breast. My surgeon told me that could just be scar tissue.

Thanks for the positive information !! Please keep me posted
My docs seem very positive ( pending scans) so we are as well. I will asked about the combo as I only see Herceptin in the plan. Sendig you positive vibes !!

You're welcome, with so much scary and depressing info on the web about IBC, I thought I should share so you would know there is hope for us. My surgery will not be until mid-August, but I'll keep you posted.
